It states within attack range 1. Now the question I have is, is this only Howlrunner's attack radius? or is it like an aura, a big circle (with range 1) around howlrunner?

Any ship that is close enough, 360 degrees, just like Target Lock (except that TL is anything in Range 1-3, of course).

So no, it does not have to be inside Howlrunners firing arc, just at Range 1 from any point of her base to the closest part of the other base.

Except for the maneuvering nubs: those don't count for range measurement.

But yes, a large rounded square around her (a Circle + a cross in the middle from where her base actually sits )
