From 4 to 3 X-Wing's

By Sprolly G, in X-Wing

I play tested Wes Janson and have to say that his ability is pretty great. I tried out a list with 2 other named pilots and went 3-0. I do hate to give out the list so early before tournament season, but I'll say that each pilot can take care of themselves in this list without the need for a support pilot.

My normal list is 4 X-Wing's:

•Wedge - Swarm Tactics

•Garvin - R-2 droid (My focus support for wedge to gain a super target lock)

•Rookie Pilot

•Rookie Pilot

Total = 100

The new list only runs 3 and is very vicious. :)

If not willing to share then why say anything at all?

Because he's a braggard :-p

Judging by his basic named X-Wings and that he play tested Wes Janson it's probably:

  • Wedge - Swarm Tactics
  • Janson - Swarm Tactics
  • Garvin

that leaves 12pts floating for Astromechs, Modifications, Torpedoes, or Z-95 once released.

  • Wedge - Swarm Tactics
  • Janson - Swarm Tactics

STOP!! You might leak his super secret, death star destroying, AT-AT blastin, tournament winning list! All will be lost!

I saw the list in action and it is pretty damned nasty. Plus he's using a pilot of my design so I have to root for it's success. :-)

since you mentioned Deathstar

If I were to use Janson, he'd be surrounded by smaller ships with Opportunist.

3 X-wings.. playtesting Wes... Probably contains Wes with Veteran Instincts, Wedge with Opportunist and R2 astromech, and some third X-wing, probably Luke or Biggs

I like the guesses, but no.

I am of the firm belief that it contains 3 X-Wings.

Lol. FINE...

•Wes + VI

•Wedge + PTL + R2

•Luke + Shield + R2-D2 + VI

Wedge is sitting there like "Wait, I shoot last in this squad? What the hell?"

Lol, yeah. It was weird, but you get used to it.

I'm of the opinion I can take this squad with 3 Shuttles. ;)

Wes' ability isn't going to help much against it, Wedge removes all evade dice, but I wasn't going to get many evade results anyway, and Luke is going to fold like wet tissue paper under that massed fire. :)

Still, it's an interesting list. I'm not sure it's tournament winning super list, but it's certainly fun and I do like the though of Wedge shooting last. :)

I ran

Luke + R2D2 + DTF

Wedge + PTL + EU + R2

Wes + VI

Against

Kitted out Fett

Fel + PTL

Dark Curse

It was pretty effective. I think I might try to squeeze in another ship by dropping Wedge and/or Luke and trying to get a rook and two other named guys if I could. Or maybe even Hobbie plus Wedge and give them all flechette torps or something. I'm still trying to find a new squad with the new pilots I'm happy with.

Edit: excuse my ramblings. I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the new transport goodness.

He's scared the NSA will get his secrets! :o

It's a good list. Looks like fun. But I think it's going to have a hard time against plenty of 4 ship Rebel lists.

Take pretty much any combination of Biggs plus 3 X's and/or B's. There is a pretty good chance that Biggs isn't dead by the time Wedge shoots meaning although Biggs will be dead before shooting Wedge probably gets wiped out by the 3 remaining ships.

Now you're 2 vs. 3 with a strong chance of not being able to eliminate another ship before it shoots. By the end of the next round you are looking at 1 vs. 2 and the odds aren't in your favor.

Again, it's not a bad list but I don't think it's going to match up as easily against 4 ship Rebel lists as you think it might, even with the PS advantage.

Aren't you usually of that opinion?

Wes+VI+Stealth

Wedge+Opportunist+R2+Stealth

Tarn+Proton Trop+Stealth

The shuttles will be with you... always...

I experienced that shuttles are often underestimated by opponents. Especially by rebel players....

And suddenly it was the shuttle with a Rebel Captive on board killing Wedge + PtL + R2 + Engine Upgrade ^^

I ran this list against 2 rebels lists with 4 ships each. One was XXYY and the other was the Bloody Daggers list, BBXX. Then against an Imperial Ace's list. The hardest list to beat was the Bloody Daggers.

The thing about XXYY is that the damage output is nerfed in favor of board control. So it doesn't have the same killing power that Bloody Daggers or normal 4 Rebel builds do. While I'm a huge fan of the ion token, I feel like more experienced players will rarely set themselves up to make a juicy ion target, though sometimes a single ship can't help it. As such, I feel like 1 ion turret is enough and the 2nd is just gimping my damage output.
