The Centenary Rave: My YT-1300 Repaint

By TonyRockyHorror, in X-Wing

Hello!

Tentatively called her the "Shadow Falcon", then considered "The Coal Miner's Dirty Daughter." But I have settled on The Centenary Raven. This is my first foray into painting miniatures. I think it came out kind of badass. Heavy black wash/filter, then rub the raised edges with a barely-damp rag. Finished off by repainting in the original colored panels, with some extras here and there. One thing I can say for sure...doing this kind of thing with sh*tty brushes sucks the high hard one.

I like it, especially where it looks like the paint has rubbed off and all that's left is shiny metal.

Awesome. I love the weathering. Really dirty looking.

As someone that plans to get into repaints, what determines a good brush from a bad one? Why does it matter?

Thanks for the pics. Hope to see more.

That was basically the idea. This ship has mad quite a few runs through some rough parts of the galaxy. As a wise man once said, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid."

A good brush is one that will hold it's shape, bristles don't continually pull out and get stuck on your model, take paint evenly, and the like.

The brushes I used were awful. I spent almost as much time trying to get bristles off the model as I did putting paint on it! Hah! I'm definitely going to be doing some more repaints. I have it in mind to do a whole fleet in this general style, actually.

I'm pretty sure that's how the Falcon looked after Lando failed to honor his "not a scratch!" agreement with Han during the Death Star II assault. Minus the deflector dish, of course. :D

Really nice... I've always wanted to paint my Falcon up like the Serenity, since they're both ships that stick with you til the day you die, and both their captains' are smugglers, and both ships told their captains they hurt before they keel... :D

Plus I zip through the enemy in the Falcon whispering: "I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar..." Then I get sad.
