We have a pretty small playgroup here. Everyone gets stuff. I know me. If I pulled it off, I would get the E-Wing in a heartbeat.
Assault at Imdaar Alpha Tournament
Already got my local game store to OK this and they already applied. It is nice to have tourneys like this to look forward to.
well, it looks like theyre saying that not every LGS will get a kit, so people might have to travel to compete.

So much Hype! I can't wait =D I'd guess this event would be Approx 2-4 weeks before World release of Wave 4. So sadly no Wave 4 for May the 4th
My LGS is holding a store championship, is the largest venue in a 100 mile radius and has run all their other events. I think the biggest concern would be the wait on applying but they already have done so. So I am excited, but if I have to travel I can and will.

2-4 months is more likely, like when they did Kessel Run for Wave 2. Look for them around GenCon
I'd laugh if they held back the rest of the spoilers on wave 4 until after the tournament, so the people in the finals don't fully know what they're building with until they actually are physically construing their lists

I approve of this.
This has me really excited. I'm hoping there's some sort of further wrinkle or objective to the finals mission too, but that might be too much since we'll all be competitive. And I think anyone who played Tie Fighter has to go for the Defender first. Lucky the Z-95 comes with some killer upgrades, and maybe EPTs too, since we've got 3 technological terrors and one old junker in the mix.
so if I get third or fourth place, I'd have to "win" a ship and cards that have already been opened and played with by someone else?
That bothers me.
So what happens if the top 2 are both flying rebel fleets? 1 player will be fine but then the other will be using an illegal squad using a mix of new imp ships and rebels.

Nope... First seed will choose rebels, second seed will be forced to make an imperial squad. Seeing as everyone has at least the core set, everyone should be able to make a full 100 point list with these two ships added.
Wedge (29) + Corran (~35) + Top Z95 (19) = 83 points, leaving 17 for upgrades.
Mauler (17) + Dark Curse (16) + Top Defender (~38) + Top Phantom (~34) = 105.
So, you'll be able to fly a fleet. If you're handicapped because you can't fly the opposing side well, then at least you know you get second choice on what ship you take home, and there's still one ship from the faction you want still to choose.

Really can't see anything even remotely "funny" or witty about your post/view: It doesn't differ from how the Kessel Run Events were done (at least in our area). And honestly; IF I reached the finals in one of these Imdaar events I would just have the most fun of trying a new ship/pilot/dial while also being sure that I'd at least have 2nd pick of ship after the game

Your post makes close to no sense: where do you get the idea that "First seed will choose rebels" from? I would most likely say it would be done by a coin toss or simple draw OR the best placed player from the swiss rounds will make his/her pick of side first and then the opponent plays the other side:

"However, in the final round, everything changes! After the close of the preliminary rounds, the tournament’s two top players set aside their personal squads and command new squads that they build with the starfighters included in the event kit.
One player will construct an Imperial squad that fields both the TIE defender and TIE phantom. The other will construct a Rebel squad that utilizes the Z-95 Headhunter as well as the E-wing. Both players will complete their 100-point squadrons by adding starships and upgrades from their existing X-Wingcollections. Then, each of the tournament’s top four participants get to claim one of the preview expansions!"
If somehow you get into the top match and don't have the ships you need to make a fleet I can't imagine anyone not spotting you something. That would be a bastard move.

Yeah, so the player deemed top seed will choose either the E wing + Z 95 or the Phantom + Defender and then make a squad based around those. Then 2nd seed will be left with the other faction, and will make a squad based around that.
As for "choosing rebels first" was in direct response to the guy asking "what if the top two both play rebels?" In all likelyhood, if you're playing rebel in the tourney, you would choose to play rebel at the final table. Same thing for imperials. And if you're second seed and the other player has chosen your preferred faction, then you're stuck playing the other faction.
And in the event that you haven't collected any of the other faction, I was just pointing out that those 2 ships plus core set (actually should have used Luke instead of Wedge as the X wing pilot) should be able to create a 100 point squad. Not saying it's competitive, just that it's legal.
If I still don't make sense, please let me know what didn't make sense and I'll try to clarify.
I can't believe this event totally snuck past me!
I saw the thread but for some reason didn't click on it and missed the news.
Now let's hope that although these will be limited that it isn't a super inclusive deal with only a sprinkling of events.
And I'm not sure if this is a repeat of the sorry/makeup type situation of the Kessel Run but perhaps more of a marketing strategy. Besides, imo the more tournaments the better!
