Assault at Imdaar Alpha Tournament

Yup, pretty neat. Also sort of confirms that FFG is looking at June at the earliest for Wave 4.

I need to open a retail store so I can get some ships before the rest of you. I'm going to hang a sign on my shed out back "Jedi Moose's X-wing Emporium". I'll invite my wife and son to the event. It will be glorious!

If the events are supposed to be held May 30 - June 1, with the best part of the prize being EARLY access to the ships, not only are you right, but surely very conservative in your guess. I think Late June or July is the absolute earliest, but history says probably July - August for Wave 4. I'd be happy to be surprised wrong though, so i could play with the new ships during the summer!

Meh, Wave 3 slipped a bit into Sept, so I would think July at the latest. I don't see a Wave 2 type delay for these ships.

However, in the final round, everything changes! After the close of the preliminary rounds, the tournament’s two top players set aside their personal squads and command new squads that they build with the starfighters included in the event kit.

One player will construct an Imperial squad that fields both the TIE defender and TIE phantom. The other will construct a Rebel squad that utilizes the Z-95 Headhunter as well as the E-wing. Both players will complete their 100-point squadrons by adding starships and upgrades from their existing X-Wing collections. Then, each of the tournament’s top four participants get to claim one of the preview expansions!

um

so if I get third or fourth place, I'd have to "win" a ship and cards that have already been opened and played with by someone else?

That bothers me.

My post was probably too cynical, but Imp Aces has had Wave 2 type delays. Also, the Kessel Run was held partly due to the delays of Wave 2, and this is a similar event. I am not trying to be cynical, but rather take the long view and then be pleasantly surprised when things go quicker than expected.

You could always just give it to me if it bothers you that much that it was played in one game.

Did you play the Kessel Run? It was the same deal. I don't have a problem with it. It hopefully helps discourage scalpers.

I guess the store I was at ran it differently than it was intended, then ... top two used their regular squads, and top four got their choice of Wave 2 ships in descending order once the tournament ended.

Yeah, I do think the play with the new stuff is partly to discourage scalpers.

And FFG was pretty up front that the Kessel Run was to apologize for the delay in Wave 2. I didn't read anything in this announcement. While delays are always possible, I don't see any reason to be pessimistic about Wave 4's release, especially after Wave 3 was timely.

Well this one says that the event runs with everyone using a standard 100 point list. Then the final is played with each list having at least 1 of each ship in it, so 1 E and Z for the Reb's and the Defender and Phantom in the Imp's.

So all 4 ships will have been used in 1 game, with the top 4 people each getting 1 ship.

I love the idea!

So if you won 1st, which ship would you choose?

So if you won 1st, which ship would you choose?

Myself I think it would be the E-Wing or maybe the Defender, mostly because those look like they'd have the most effect as a single ship added to a list of other types of ships.

I like the idea of bringing the Kessel Run preview event back, looks really fun. Very excited!

Would be awesome if they did something like this every wave. Definately builds excitement.

I'd go Phantom of Defender, for similar reasons.

I think my order would be Defender, E-wing, Phantom, then Z-95.

But, E-wing and Defender are very close ties. I play Rebels more often, so, but it's a hard choice. If we get this at my LGS, then I'll probably take the one that corresponds to the side I used.

Defender. Or Phantom. No, Defender. No, Phantom....

I have some thinking to do.

Sounds fun! Idk whether to spend more time squad building a squad to get to top 2, or building the squad I will use if I get to top 2!

Well, feel free to pass it on to 5th place then.

Christ! What a level of ingratefulness

I'd go Phantom of Defender, for similar reasons.

Until we know more about the cloaking device... I'm not sure how big of a fan of the Phantom I'll be. I'm mean I'll get 3 of them, because even if the PS1 generic comes in at 25 points.. I just don't see running them without upgrades.

But I just don't know much I'll like them till I know more.

I really wish there was something in the kit for the person running the tournament. All the other kits normal have something in it for the person running it like tokens or cards. I'm the main one running the tournaments, but I would want to play in this. With the everyone wanting the new ships I would be afraid to play and run it even with another person helping run the tournament.

I'm in the same boat. The Kessel run gave two ships to the guy who ran it. They could send one extra random.

This looks awesome. I just let my LGS know about it.

annnnnnnnnnnndddddd... I'm out of town that weekend....
