An Open Request to FFG

The oft overlooked fact is that in elimination rounds, complete ties go the the one with initiative.

1.) It's a poor rule but fortunately it would be an extraordinarily rare occurence.

2.) Adding a defer option doesn't impact that rule because it's still arbitrary.

The only time I think it would come into play is a simultaneous fire situation where the last ships of either side were destroyed.

but if you had the defer option and used it but tied in an elimination round... :(

Edit: Am I remembering wrong that the official stance from FFG was to roll 3 dice and whoever has the most eyeballs wins initiative? I know we didn't make that up ourselves, because I actually hate it, but the current rules doc is back to coin toss... Was this just what they did at GenCon?

I don't remember that being the rule for initiative but it's the method given in the rule book for resolving rules disputes and marginal measurements (i.e. is my ship at range 3 or not?). Maybe a TO decided that was better than a coin flip?

I think most people I know decided after three identical rolls in a row that just calling it and rolling one die was a more efficient use of their time. :D

Most people generally either roll 3 attack dice and see who has the most hits/crits (which can get tedious when you roll like four ties in a row), or the far superior "one person calls hits or misses, the other person rolls a die and you both get on with your lives" method. ;)

I've just been playing it that both players roll a single attack die. Blank < Focus < Hit < Crit and it is generally worked out in a roll or two.

Dude even then you're overcomplicating it. Hits and Crits = Hits. Blanks and Focus = Miss. Done.

I wanted to try that one round in a tournament, after explaining what it was we realised my opponent could not do spock.
