Clone Wars season 6- no spoilers(yet)

By r2trooper, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ford said he wanted Solo to die in RotJ in a interview, if I remember correctly. Hopefully Fisher, Hamill and Ford won't be as burned out for 7 as they were for Jedi (my hopes aren't too high though...)

Also the worst line delivered in the entire Star Wars saga has got to be "NOOOOOOO!" line delivered by the great and talented James Earl Jones, every line he had in the OT was gold though...

The worst in all of the movies was Padme talking to the Gungan king asking for help in Phantom. It's like she is reading off a teleprompter dialogue she has never seen.

Maybe....

but the best line in Star Wars has got to be Qui-Gon's line:

"the ability to speak does not make one intelligent"

or of course Obi-Wan's famous line:

"...many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view..."

I call Obi-Wan the Master of the Passive-Aggressive Side of the Force:

"You must do what you feel is right, of course <pout> ...."

Actually there's some really interesting backstory. A lot of OT only fans frequently disparage Producer Rick McCallum as nothing more than Lucas' "yes" man. He did an interview a couple of years ago and made it very plain that he is proud of the PT, and did not always agree with George and made his opinions very clear. But ultimately it was his job as producer to see Lucas' vision brought to the screen. One area he and Lucas disagreed on.... Natalie Portman. McCallum felt she was still a little too raw as an actor and the part might overwhelm her.

One of the persistent rumors going around post TPM was that since there was a 10 year jump in the timeline Portman could easily be replaced, McCallum apparently tried to persuade Lucas to replace Portman with Kiera Knightly (who played Sabe, one of Amidala's handmaidens in TPM), but Lucas remained loyal to Portman.

BTW D Money, spot on with your observations about TCW. Interestingly Hamill mentioned in an interview in 1980 that the sequels were going to involve Luke looking for a long lost sister. Of course that changed with Jedi, but Lucas doesn't like to throw out ideas. On the surface we are clearly supposed to remember Yoda's line from Jedi that "There is another Skywalker..." but maybe it has a double meaning now. Dave Filoni has hinted that the Yoda finale has some loose tie ins to the Sequel Trilogy.

Yancy

I rarely give in to fanboyism and giddy childishness like this, but after watching season 6 yesterday... SQUEEEE!!!! The first story arc was cool, really cool, the Clovis-arc was slightly "meh", but

the Embo cameo was nice

The Jar Jar & Windu arc was, surprisingly enough fun and good:

Jar Jar having a Queen as lover is kinda cool I think, and Mace's obvious disdain and scepticism of Jar Jar's behaviour and abilities is refreshing, and also his slow acceptance of Jar Jar's ... "luck" or whatever you want to call it.

The last story arc was... very nice. I'm not sure how to really express my enthusiasm and appreciation of those 4 episodes, it's fan service, its tie in to some EU stuff (that now I guess should be considered canon? I think?) was awesome, and slightly more mystifying of the Force again, revealing the limits of Jedi knowledge - and their arrogance. I like it.

Agreed, I mustsay I really found the banker arc to be disapointing. Other than that it was pretty on point.

The banker arc might not be everyones taste, but it is rather important IMO.

It highlights how wars are financed, even in RL. Just look at the budget of the US.

And it serves to make us see how insecure/jealous Anakin is.

I totally agree with you. While not the epitome of excitement, still very important to the understanding of the Clone Wars, and once again shows how two men are orchestrating and coordinating events on two sides, to ensure that no matter what, they will be victorious. It makes me wonder what Palpatine's plan was if the CIS ended up winning the war and not the GAR.

With Anakin, you can just see how he is seething when he is in dealing with Clovis, and even beats the crap out of him. This is a prime example of why the Jedi Code does not want the Jedi to have the love type relationships.

While the Clovis arc was my least favorite of the new ones, they were still really good, and have a tone of information in them.

I had always thought that the Banking Clan was allied with the CIS, not neutral or even part of the Republic. I wonder how this will change any thing in the EU. Could have an effect on Beyond the Rim too. :)

The part where Anakin and Clovis were fighting was intense, and really dark in a way.

In some ways this and other political story arcs are my favourite part of TCW, and why I can't really watch the movies anymore.

Now that's not to say I re-watch the political episodes much (and it will probably be a while before I re-watch this arc), but they flesh out the SW universe in a way that gives it a kind of depth the movies only hint at. I may not re-watch them, but I'm grateful they exist.

Also they prove without a doubt that SW stories can be about any subject at all, from murder mysteries to byzantine politics to westerns in space.

I expect this is the kind of thing I will miss most with Rebels, since apparently that will be much more focused on a selected group of characters, and we won't get a lot of that kind of grand background/big picture stuff.

I don't think Palpatine planned for CIS winning since he basically had his finger on a button that would turn off their army. Of course I don't think he planned for getting chucked down a reactor shaft either..............

The Emperor's voice echoes up from the reactor shaft as he falls.

"Everything is stiiiiiiiiill going as I have foreseeeeeeeeen it!"

I agree and it's why I am concerned with the Mk. 1 standard group they have assembled for Rebels. Too much of the genre nowadays takes a sci fi/fantasy backdrop then just plops characters into it, who act and behave like they came from suburban middle class neighborhoods the day before. They have suburban mentalities and motivations.

I enjoy seeing the universe fleshed out more and more. A place as immense as the Empire with 1.75 million worlds integrated who wouldn't want to hear more about that. Factoid, I did the math, if you could speak non stop and took 1 second to say the name of the 1.75 million planets it would take 20.25 days to read them off.

Yes. Yes. All good and well, but the most important thing about all of this is...

... when are we going to get a big, beautiful book of paintings and official stats for these puppies?

We might have pictures and not know it, as FFG has not provided art for quite a number of vehicles and starships

SPOILERS BELOW

I gotta say after watching the Jar Jar arc that scene in the temple really makes me want to run an epic battle on a huge

staircase with no railing and enemies coming from top and bottom, I think my players would really enjoy that... that scene had a cool swashbuckling feel to it.

Also I'm probably alone in this thought here, but when Yoda was told: "there was another Skywalker," my first thought wasn't that they were talking about Luke or Leia but maybe Shmi's sister/brother/twin, or maybe(huge maybe) even Anakin's long lost twin... I know it's NOT what they were talking about with the baby crying in the back round and what not, it was just the first thing I thought of.... mostly because Yoda drops that line in Empire and when he did he wasn't talking about Leia originally, but Luke's yet to be seen sister (which Lucas changed to Leia later).

Now hear me out (and I know this is crazy but..) at the end of TCW if they weren't talking about Anakin's children to Yoda, then in Empire Yoda is still talking about a yet to seen Skywalker(a cousin or uncle/aunt now instead of Luke's sister)

These were also Yoda's dying words in Jedi and when Luke told them to Obi Wan, Obi Wan(who knew of Leia) explained to Luke that Yoda was talking about his sister. Honestly Obi Wan could have been lying to Luke again.. (Darth Vader killed your father....) Crazy I know...

END SPOILERS

See, I was thinking maybe he was talking about Padme. Maybe he figured out that they were married, because unless there is some long-lost sibling of Anakin that nobody knows about, the only Skywalker family in that line at the time was Anakin and Padme. Yoda didn't say "There will be another Skywalker", he said "There is another Skywalker".

Perhaps, Padmé was pregnant at the time Yoda heard that. Or it was a glimpse of the future.

Perhaps, Padmé was pregnant at the time Yoda heard that. Or it was a glimpse of the future.

This was my thoughts about what it meant as well. They're really getting close to Episode III so perhaps!

I just assumed he was having glimpses of his own demise, when he would achieve transubstantiation. But The padme pregnancy thing makes some sense.

I've come up with a principle that I find very helpful when considering stuff like "Is it plausible that a planet would elect a 14-year-old queen?"

I call it the Goldilocks Principle.

When you're reading the story of Goldilocks, bears live in a house and make porridge.

But bears don't really live in houses and make porridge!

Yet, in the story of Goldilocks, they DO. When Goldilocks goes into the house, she doesn't say, "OH crap there are bears talking how can this be!" It is just a fact of nature in Goldilocks' story.

A fantasy world like Star Wars has its own internal logic, but it doesn't have to track perfectly with the way our logic works.

If they can program C3P0 to speak 'Basic', why can't they program R2D2 to speak 'Basic'? Because bears live in a house and make porridge.

Why would a planet elect a 14-year-old Queen? Because bears live in a house and make porridge.

Why can spaceships fly through space far faster than the speed of light? Because bears and porridge.

Why can people levitate stuff and shoot lightning from their hands? Because bears and porridge.

It really doesn't have to be that complex. The movies have a world and that world belongs to the movies more than it does to our reality. Those are just the rules.

Aaaaaand, that's Post of the Year.

See you all next January! :D
