how worthless most of the ships are for tournaments.

By victorygogan, in X-Wing

Just got done going over new ships and how can a one skill captain with two hull cost 27 points? Who is the ******* or holes who come up with this stuff? Seriously you have a better chance of playing pick up sticks with your butt cheeks than winning with one of these in your squad. Sigh...

I'll go ahead and rate this post as pretty worthless too.

I see you suffer from premature posting. Unfortunately there isn't a nasal spray to help you alleviate that issue unlike other premature issues.

Wait until you see the dial and what the cloaking ability does before you say that a ship is worthless. People thought that the HWK-290 would be useless based upon it's stats but it is used quite often including in tournament squads. FFG is putting a reasonable effort into keeping things balanced. Just cool those jets of yours and wait until you have a clearer picture before you decry something as being absolutely useless.

How do you guys even know what he's talking about? Lol

I'm so confused. Thought he was talking about attack wing for a moment...

I think it might be a troll, but I'll bite, they may or may not be useful for tournaments, but as a casual gamer, I say being them on, each one adds more flavour to the universe

Even if they were useless in tournaments, what's there to cry about? A useless ship for a tournament is a far better situation than an OP ship that suddenly becomes top tier and everyone is forced to either run it or run the counter to it.

The games not broken, you are..

Quote fail. Sorry.

Just like bounty hunters at base 33 are never used in tournaments.

Great first post. Hopefully your last.

Outter rim smuggler?

Either way, obvious troll is obvious. FYI, the playtesters play several games with each ship and have their own forum for discussing things. I will say that comments like yours are not constructive and reflect a poor light on the community as a whole. Good day sir.

He's talking about the E-Wing.

And yeah, it'll probably be pretty worthless in tournaments. Oh well. Just don't buy one. Except you might want one for R7-T1, or for another copy of Flechette Torpedoes, or for whatever Outmaneuver does.

Really? THAT'S what you decided to make as your first post?

I don't care if these new ships are worthless in tournaments. I'm getting at least one of each. I'll get an E-Wing just to have a Corran Horn! ;)

Why do people keep saying this? There's absolutely no evidence for it.

Cost, as the OP points out. The PS1 pilot is 27; the cheaper unique pilot is 32.

And X-wing with an extra agility AND the ability to bring the "most" powerful upgrade since Pust the Limit? Yeah, totally worthless.

meh

I'd rather have the shuttle for the same cost as a Rookie Pilot

What I'm really trying to underscore, though, isn't that it certainly will be good but merely that it's plausible that it might be good. Or, to turn that argument around: I don't see any reasonable argument, before we even see its dial let alone get it on the table, that it can't ever be effective.

Basically, "because it's expensive" isn't actually an argument, since there's no general argument that says expensive =/= fun and viable; if there were, Wedge would never show up in anyone's tournament list. People keep jumping from the observation that it's an expensive ship to the inference that it must be too expensive, and they're doing it without crossing any of the intervening territory. It's a bit frustrating to watch.

Especially since they are claiming it has the A-Wing's speed and maneuverability.

The A-Wing dial with those stats is going to be a beast. I'm worried it will be overpowered.

It's almost like they want us to play this game in ways that are more than just tournaments. But that can't be right can it?

I see what you did there. HAHA!

That's not a reason. Compare the cheaper generic E-wing at 27 to a Rookie at 21: for 6 points you get slightly better hit points (because shields > hull), an additional point of Agility, the barrel roll and evade actions, at least a slightly better dial, and access to the systems upgrade slot. You also lose a point of pilot skill, but even so that's a lot of improvements over the X-wing.

But cost is in fact a reason that a ship might not be viable. Look at the TIE Advanced.

The reason Wedge is played despite his high cost is because people usually use Biggs and perhaps Luke to soak enemy fire and keep him alive. And he's only 2 points more than the cheapest E-Wing. The most expensive E-Wing could be 35 points before upgrades! A squad that runs an E-Wing with upgrades might only be able to fit two more ships, and that's probably not enough firepower and hit points to beat many other competitive squads with much consistency.

I might add that the Biggs-Luke-Wedge squad isn't the greatest choice in today's metagame because it doesn't have enough ships.
