Transport and Rogue Squadron X-Wing

By Tamati Khan, in X-Wing

Not everyone wants to buy three transports to get a squadron of Rogue Squadron X-Wings. To these people I suggest a repaint of the X-Wing to mimic the colours of Rogue Squadron if they want their X-Wings to look the part.

But what about me?

TRANSPORT

I'm going to play the transport on a 6' X 4' gaming area. Place the transport on one of the 4' sides and then assemble the Rebels in anyway the player sees fit. Empire squadrons come in from the other side of the gaming area on a mission to cripple or destroy the transport. Rebels simply have to get the transport off the other side of the gaming area.

If I want more than one transport, this mission can be repeated and the different squadrons arranged in waves.

X-WING

Using a squadron builder http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build which someone posted in one of my earlier topics, I find myself wanting to use non-character X-Wings. For those who are interested in such things: Trio of Red Squadron pilots; each with R5 astromech, proton torpedoes and shield upgrade. When I saw the lonely Rogue Squadron X-Wing I thought " why not use that X-Wing for a character "

Whether used as a Rogue Squadron pilot or Biggs, Garven, Luke or Wedge, I figured why not use the only unique X-Wing to make my collection to represent them.

You might disagree.

Might think I've gone mad.

But that is how I'm going to be using the new X-Wing and the Transport. Because I don't want to buy more than one. If I ever want to use the unique pilots, then I'd simply use my " normal " X-Wings with the pilot cards. As long as I pay the points, and my opponent knows and is happy, why stress about what X-Wing I use?

To all those who cry:

"I want Rogue Squadron but don't want three transports"

I say:

"Chill and use a bit of imagination"

That's what I think anyway.

I'm not sure where/why you got the idea that people will be buying more than one. I don't plan on buying more than one. All the upgrades are unique save for the missiles, and those are already previewed to be included in with some Wave 4 ships.

If there was something extra special I could be convinced to buy 2, but at this moment it does not appear that more than one is required.

The X-Wing is just a repaint for Jek's X. It is not a Rogue squadron one. Rogue squadron used the normal Red color during the Movies and had multiple different paint schemes when Wedge took over in EU. So no issue there....

It has been said that people want three of the X-Wings but not pay for three transports. Might be elsewhere if not here where I read it.

Just thought it was daft.

I certainly will be using my regular X Wings for all the possible X Wing pilots, the "new repaint" doesn't look that different but would be useful for a special character or squad leader. It is always good to see people take it to the next level and repaint specific ones.

Having said that I have ordered 4 packs of Imperial Aces just because I think the paint scheme is more dynamic and if I use a Saber Squadron pilot alongside an Alpha I can show the difference.

I'll be buying two.

Any idea if there's going to be a way of just getting the X-wing and new pilots in a seaparate pack so we don't need to get the transport to have the Rogue pilots?

never gonna happen

bummer.

If you don't by more than 1 transport, how will you fill up your table with loads of heavy ships for a 12 hour game????????

you have three transports constantly buffing Han. He would never die.

Depending on the point costs of Epic and Cinematic Play I'll likely be getting 2 Transports and eventually a third Transport and possibly a second Blockade Runner. These models look AMAZING, and if I happen to get good with the large ships and there's the possibility of multiples on one battlefield I'll happily field them (budget willing).

Thinking about it, I actually would like Epic play to be Team Based Combat (with each person getting so many points), that way I could save money but still field the ships. Plus, team play can be really enjoyable.

Genuine question: who remembers the high res scan of the transport?

In that you can see the base inserts. You can see 1. Ps8 (wes) 2. Ps7 (porkins) and 3. Ps5 (hobbie). So in theory( unless you want to play tarn and his reverse ) you won't need to buy more then 1.

I need to know a lot more about the Epic Play format before i would get more than one Transport. The number of points involved, for starters. And whether the rules even allow for multiple huge ships on the board at one time. I'd actually be open to a second transport if the play supports it. These things bring a whole new level to the Senator's Shuttle scenario. The second X-Wing would be a keeper, but the additional Transport would be the driving force for the second purchase. We'll see, as FFG slowly leaks the details...

And, as many points as the CR90 costs, I can't really see the need for more than one of those.

What if the ship bases (the two sided cardboard ones) have named pilots on both side? Then we couldn't field those two pilots at the same time.

We have four named and probably a Red and a Rookie. That equals three cardboard bases, with two named pilots on opposite sides of one.

Well, there is that. But fielding those two pilots at the same time is certainly not a $60 need for me. Like I mentioned before, the only reason I'd get a second transport is if it was a viable choice for Epic play. And thank goodness we don't have this issue with the CR90!
