With R2-D6, what all is possible?

By DraconPyrothayan, in X-Wing

PtL or Deadeye on a Gold Sqd Y-wing would be pretty nice. I personally like the Deadeye to keep the cost down. Being the Y-wing can carry two torpedoes and has the hull/shield to stick around long enough to fire both of them, this would be a fun combo!

The real problem is opportunity cost. IMO, there are only a handful of EPTs that, with an increase in cost by one, are better than the other astromech options. This is without also considering that there are new, powerful astros on the way. R7-T1 looks to be amazing, who knows what else we'll get.

It won't be broken yet.

Why not?

It makes elite upgrades 1 point more and costs you your droid upgrade. So you can't have it and for example R2D2.

This argument is kind of null. It is all based on player preference, really. There is ALWAYS a trade off for every point you spend on your squad. So now, every EPT is available thru your astromech slot. Some astromechs are more competitive than some EPTs. But nearly every card from either upgrade can find its niche in a list. A number of players at my local league complain about the Y wing not having EPTS on the regular. Now they do, at the cost of one ship's astromech slot. Seems fair.

Biggs with Elusiveness or Expert Handling will last a while longer, methinks...

As pointed out in the big news thread, putting PTL on a Y-Wing carrying torpedoes allows it to target lock and focus in the same turn, which might be good enough to give that ship a viable role other than ion cannon platform.

Deadeye combos well with Garven Dreis when he's trying to use a torpedo.

If you have a high-PS pilot who can clear an opponent's focus and evade tokens, you can put Opportunist on a Red Squadron Pilot to take advantage of the situation.

red squadron with VI seems playable - u now have a PS6 x-wing, not bad.

Elusiveness, yes. I like the idea of expert handling but not so much to make him last longer, more to make sure they can't just clip Wedge's corner without seeing Biggs.

For 1 point more, you can get Garven.

I say place all the astromechs on a transport and relive the mission from X-wing where you have to disable/capture it for access to them in the next mission.

... who still has an open astromech slot.

edit:

It's kinda funny, everyone was always going on about the Rebel pilots lacking the EPT, now they've got it... And really don't seem to have much to do with it

The idea behind asking for EPT was to combine it with an astromech. Like PTL or EH and R2. R2-D6 does not do that.

There has to be a trade off somewhere or there would be an even bigger extra cost for your EPT

We Imperial players don't mind this one bit. Nope not at all.
