My next Alt-Setting EotE game...

By BrashFink, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

New campaign is Psychic people running away from the government a la Akira or Firestarter with the powers obviously being just force powers.

This time I am not even rewriting any rules. I am just using them as they stand and using what makes sense. The main complicated ones are some Knowledge ones. I have changed "Core Worlds" to North America... and "Outer Rim" to World.

Everything else will be kind of run off the cuff if changes are needed.

Here is one of the character sheets. BTW, it has already been pointed out to me that I typo-ed Psychic lol). These sheets are not quite done yet (the Strain is wrong too):

I do like the redacted look. A+ for style.

Thanks. I thought it would be a fun addition, esp since we all play remotely.

I also did it because the players will be spending XP on their skills and Talents only. The "Force Powers" and Talents from the Force Specializations are set on a predetermined path that will be unveiled over time... along with parts of the players past. This is why some of the powers are redacted.

Hmm... I'm suddenly thinking Push. They had a bunch of different flavors of psychics there too.

What are you doing about the Piloting skills? Change them to Piloting and Driving?

Very nice. I have been toying with a Modern Urban Fantasy setting myself. Still putting the Ritual System through its paces and typing it up.

I'm looking at converting the Slipstream Savage Worlds campaign setting to use this system. My daughters loved playing Slipstream and like this system.

You should post it up when you get it polished. :D

The first thing will be converting the characters ... attributes and skills, etc. In Savage Worlds you've got Strength, Agility, Smarts, Spirit, and Vigor that I need to map to EotE attributes.

Strength = Brawn

Agility = Agility

Smarts = Intelligence

Spirit = Presence

Vigor = Willpower

??? = Cunning

The second thing I'll be doing is going through the baddies list in Slipstream and finding the appropriate ones in EotE, then massaging them as I go. We're pretty much following the plot point campaign, so I'll be taking a look at it as a whole and work in the EotE types of encounters, challenges, etc where I see that I can.

For instance, an astrogation check will still be used pretty close to the same way but I don't think there are hyperdrives in Slipstream ... haven't run it in well over a year. =) I know there are a finite number of planets in the Slipstream 'verse, so I might use just a planetary system scale for travel ... or just wing it.

The knowledge skills will need to be looked at and tweeked as well, I believe. All the other skills will translate very nicely. The classes / talents translate from the Star Wars setting very nicely to another "Sci-Fi" setting such as Slipstream ... other than the force sensitive exile unless the Sci-Fi system you're translating to has "magic" of some sort.

Anyways, I think I can ramble on and on about this. It will be a while, but I'll post what I've got it at a point to share.

Thanks,

Z

Piloting Planetary is officially Drive... as for the Piloting Space, I would say you could just use whatever the character needs... Ride for horses or Motorcycles? Pilot for planes? Like I said, we are kind of going with the flow.

As for the characters, so far there is an Empath (using Influence) and the Precog above (forsee power)... it is a small online game with 2 players only. There will be a major NPC Psychokinetic (move power).

Some of the other powers for NPCs will be special NPC powers similar how I did in the Lovecraftian "Edge of Sanity" One Shot. Meaning not really anything out of the book, but some mechanical trick they can do. That is the great thing about these EotE rules, it is so easy to imagine and come up things without really breaking the game completely.

Also when more Force powers come out with the New Beta book probably out this summer (force one, I have forgotten the name already) I will probably lift stuff out of there too.

One thing that is a bit confusing on converting to this system is the Presence and Cunning deal. Kind of how some games have Strength and Constitution separated, EotE kind of has the personality ones split. I realized this when a player was talking about building a character that influences people and we were going to give a hi PRE... we then realized he really more more into tricking and lying... OHHHH that is cunning!

I like the split in EotE. There's two physical characteristics, 2 mental characteristics, and 2 social characteristics. To top it off, they break down pretty well as a power and finesse pairing for each of them.

Brawn: Physical - Power

Agility: Physical - Finesse

Willpower: Mental - Power

Intellect: Mental - Finesse

Presence: Social - Power

Cunning: Social - Finesse

Yeah I like the breakdown also. Just pointing out that until you realize it, it is a bit confusing that the Socials are split. Cunning is a bit odd though since it also handles a lot of kinds of thievery stuff.
