Ten Numb & Ion Cannon interaction.

By MrGloverGlover, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I've only got three games under my belt, so quite a new player. I'm just getting to grips with some of the more complex synergies/interactions and stumbled upon the one mentioned in the title.

Basically; as Ten Numb's crits cannot be cancelled by dice, if he's firing an Ion cannon at a target without an evade token and rolls a crit - does the target get an ion token effectively without contest?

Any opinions appreciated.

This is a really good question. I think yes they cannot cancel the crit, so a hit (in this case the crit they can't cancel) gets through causing the ion effect, but I would let some of the other rules gurus step in and confirm.

They can't cancel the crit, so the Ionization effect occurs regardless.
Well spotted, and this makes me want to play Ten Nunb now!

Ahh, well... good!

I've always wanted to play B-Wings since the PC game 'X-Wing' expansion was released; I couldn't even find a copy anywhere, so they became the symbol of unobtainable greatness. I've got to say, they've been pretty effective in my three 100pt games so far.

More on topic though; I hope it's confirmed as working this way; the 3pt Ion Cannon seems to round off a bunch of my lists pretty well.

Yeah that's how I read it as well.

Ten's [crit] results can not be canceled by defense dice, and this applies to all attacks not just primary weapon attacks.

So without an evade token, if Ten rolls a [crit] then the ship suffers the ion effect no matter what, since they can't cancel that result.

Then the rest of the ion rules go into effect, so the ship still only suffers 1 damage. But yeah that's a good catch.
