Every tuesday evening at Gamer's World Montreal is an evening i habitually anticipate with great interest.
Last tuesday was not different. All day long at work i was thinking about this evening. Finally, job over, let's go back to my place to eat and relax! I even had the time to build this new deck i wanted to try for weeks now... so here i was, finally leaving, joining with my buddy Target X and hop to Gamer's World!
First mistake... my new deck was one fire deck off Akuma6... the so hated Akuma6... which i never had difficulty to beat... well anyway...
First matchup againt Token and a new deck idea he had. I end up beating him pretty easily, but it was fun and not too frustrating for him. ( i hope )
Second matchup against Charles ( Lazy Lantern ) and his Chun-Li9... hurg i hate this chun-li... *duuuhhh feline spike... check6... you dead... hhhuuuggg* but he has no Spike, his deck is based off another idea... fine i'm safe, i sooooo hate Spike and the 6 checks deck off air or water that has only 2 prerequisite: money and the IQ of a drunk Lumberjack... If you meet those, you wack faces... anyway... cool! I beat him...
but then the arguing start... him, Target X and Hatman start jumping on me as Akuma should be banned, he's broken, too strong, not cool, easy mode, frustrating... bla bla bla... as if Spike wasn't, and those last 2 have playset they hapily throw in your face without remorse... Hey, everyone and his sister have played Akuma6 one day or another... it's my first time playing him, and with a pure C/UC deck aggro fire deck, no foilys... no control piece... come on...
Third matchup start, which end the arguing, to my great relief, i was getting really irritated of being jumped on by friends...
I end up against the new guy, Alex, who had no chance in the past, getting his face wacked for weeks now... surprising, he confirm me he is 2-0 win like me... amazing i tell him happilly. Uggrhhh... he have an Air, Starter Mai, feline spike, 6 check deck... I expect much fun, and surprisingly have. He barely kill me with a Spike because i made the mistake of commiting my character instead of my last foundation to block his precedent attack, and feline spike has stun. I need a 5 to live.. check a 4... my mistake cost me the game... Second mistake of the evening.
You still there? well keep up, cause now the amazing part start...
Me, Charles and Hatman try to guess what will be top 4 of this 9 persons event.
Obviously Alex, being the only 3-0, will be first.
I am 2-1, but beat Charles, and got beaten by Alex, the no 1.
Charles is also 2-1, beaten by me, never meet Alex
Hatman is 1-2 and lost against Alex
Target X is also 2-1 but got one of his victory with a bye and didn't play against Alex.
WE guess that top 4 will be : Alex, Me, Charles, then Target X.... Hatman is gonna be 5th or somethin...
Result are out.......... Target X announce the result..... Alex 1st, Charles 2nd, Target X 3rd, Me 4th, then Hatman somewhere...
HUH? how i am 4th? having beaten Charles and only having been beaten by Alex... 2nd, 3rd and 4th place have the exact same tie breaker... how?!?
Target X point us the answer... C D M ... the new FFG tournament software ordered us by alphabetical order ( Alex, Charles, David and then me, Martin )
...I die inside... Alphabetical order???
yes you heard it... the new software doesn't compute Tie Breakers correctly and order players by alphabetical order...
Now imagine in major tournament of 30-40+ players... you wanna make top 8? hope your name is not Xavier or William...
Can Nats 2009 is one month away, and i just learned a wonderfull fact...
If top 9 looks like this :
1st 6-0-0 Remi
2nd 5-0-1 Alex
3rd 5-0-1 Bob
4th 4-1-1 John
5th 4-1-1 Tom
6th 3-2-1 Vermillian (
)
7th 3-2-1 Target X
8th 3-2-1 Hatman
9th 3-2-1 Charles
then because the software order by alphabetical order, Vermillian will get kicked out of top 8 even if he theorically ended 6th ...
That idea revolt me...
