A-Wings in the News
Read it last night.
Have to admit I've never been interested in the A-Wing but reading that has made me consider whether or not to include them.
Edited by Tamati KhanI do like the articles FFG has been posting. The what to do after the starter set one helps guide new players in their most frequently asked question. And this tries to address people's concerns about the A-Wing. I'm betting a Tie Advanced article may be next. It's all good stuff, but just like the topics about these various subjects I think they'll eventually be buried by other posts. Too bad, as they are addressing some good areas.
Edited by RookiePilotI've been running a list with an Green squad A-wing + Squad leader, it's worked rather well
This is nice, hope they continue with this with all the other ships....
My experience with A-wings are similar as my experience with TIE Interceptors. I believe they are not designed to be the meat of a squad, and in a 60 minute/game tournament, it will be hard (even with missles) to get any better than a modified win. The two ships are probably 2 of the best (generic) dog fighters there are, but their strength is in making your opponent earn every hit they land on you and win through attrition. I have played 2-3 hour games where their maneuverability wins me games, and they are amazing fun to fly, I just feel in the tournament scene they do not shine. My 2 cents
I think their time to shine will come with some of the newer upgrades / EPTs and possibly some new pilots. I have tons of threads buried here from about 6 months ago about A-wing swarms and combination lists..
I love A-wings but i tend to agree, they just seem a point or two overpriced.
I agree with the timed game comment. In a tournament I don't think you see the best out of the squint of a wing. As they shine when you can fly with style, dodge, evade and strike when it is safe. In a tournament It forces you to engage sooner and more often then such a brittle yet maneuverable ship would find prudent.
Outside of a timed game, you can easily play for 2, 3, 4 hours wearing down an opponent and eventually win with little to no damage if you can fly hard and evade fire arcs and take defensive actions when not.
I've had most success with running 2 out of three ships being squints or A wings, as you use a large ship or a tough one as a bait ship, then flank and destroy. Or, running one higher end A wing or Squint, to draw fire while the meat of the list focuses on the enemy. If they don't attack the heavy hitters in the list, they'll pay for it, if they ignore the flanker, you get good strikes in without fear of return fire.
Hands down some of the most fun in maneuver you can have in this game lie in squints and A wings.
I agree with a lot of what that article says... I still haven't figured out an effective way of using Arvel, so I choose Tycho instead, mostly because of his ability and how well he can be paired with Push the Limit.
A-wings and fletchette missile might be the way to go.
Flechette is a torpedo so A-Wings can't use them.
A-wings and fletchette missile might be the way to go.
Flechettes are torpedoes, ion missiles are the new 3 point missiles
Ahh, sorry. Missed that. 2 pts had me drooling for a sec
