I think its become obvious they are going to continue releasing special ships and sets.

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

Like the title says, what sets or special ships would you people lime to see in this game? Lets keep it to ships that are likely to be produced. No star destroyers and crap like that.

I personally would like to see larger sets. Like a 6 ship squdron. Or a shuttle with 2 tie fighter escorts.

Or hell. What about duel packs. Xwing vs interceptor with new upgrade cards and pilot skills.

What do you guys think?

I just thought of a card that would be cool in a duel pack where points could be unbalanced.

You can purchase bonus agility dice. You get 1 die per card. When the attacker declares his attack but before he rolls any dice you may discard any number of bonus dice cards to gain the extra die to avoid damage.

Tye wings and Tie Droids. Then I can retire in peace.

Smells like Stealth Device.

An interesting idea, but I don't think they'd go farther than bundling 2-3 ships together at the same time. A big part of the focus is on the 100 point tournament format which is attractive to gamers who want a short competitive game. I think that if they push the larger scale format too much then they may well lose players.

Let's look at Warhammer Fantasy and 40K for a few moments here. Now I know that they are a different beast to XWM, but both games started out their origins as being small skirmish scale engagements. With each passing edition the amount of models needed to play a game (in some cases large models) has increased in order to be able to play at the recommended size format. They have become big bloated affairs and both systems are bleeding players due to a combination of having to buy more models and the increasing costs of said models. To start playing 40k in a competitive format if starting from scratch will cost you close to a grand by the time you buy an army, build it and paint it. This is creating an effective barrier for newer players as the overwhelming outlay means that many will simply skip it and look for a different system that won't cost so much to get into (Warmachine and Kings of War come to mind)

If FFG pursues a similar format, they are likely to price themselves out of the market due to players feeling the need to own 24+ TIE fighters to be able to participate. I'm not saying big games aren't cool because they are awesome to play, but a company needs to keep itself focused on what makes their game appealing and I think for a lot of us that is the small size, quick to play nature of it.

A shuttle tie set would be pretty cool. Though I'd like more a shuttle, dual tie advanced set, to get better pilots for the advanced and just more shuttle pilots. Or how about a dual shuttle kit. I guess what I'm getting at is, if they released a special shuttle kit, I'd buy 4.

So how about duel packs. Do you think that would sell? I would buy them if there were new skills and upgrades.

I thought, how about an advanced and 2 tie.

1 is vader of course and 2 wing men

A-wing and Y-wing Aces pack. It could come with just 1 of each ship in an alternate paint scheme and give us some new pilots and upgrades to keep them current. Something to give y-wings either bombs or EPT's. Some pilots with the A-wing that have actually really useful abilities!

What are you going to do with eight shuttles? Put them all in a sock and use them to bludgeon your opponent into submission?

Except FFG has proven to be willing to support alternate tournament formats. Just look at the AGOT's Joust and Melee tournaments. I doubt things will bet bigger than Epic for tournaments.

Funny you should ask what I'd do with 8 shuttles, as I already have 8, so the question would be what would I do with 12 shuttles ? What would I do ? I'd run them all in large point games, or I'd just hold them near and cherish them. Or put them all in a pillow case to beat my opponent into submission. Why settle for a sock ?

So your hoping for the pillow fighter upgrade card????

I only lime with tequila and Corona.

Keeps them more densely packed making it more suitable for bludgeoning. Also easier to hide as well for surprise attacks.

"I see you have used Push the Limit to dodge out of my gun arcs with your interceptor again good sir. For that I commend you and EAT SHUTTLE TO THE FACE! #%$&*!"

To me, this game has collectable value. While I could never field 12 X-wings in a game, I would love to have a Red Squadron, each with named pilot cards and appropriately painted ships. I never got into Rogue Squadron, but having a complete set of those pilots has been mentioned before.

I think as the game evolves, it's going to have to get to that point to stay relevant. It can't keep diluting the Tourney pool with more ships, but has to give players a reason to stick around.

I suspect that two ship or maybe three ship packs will remain a popular choice for FFG for expanding the game system. It encourages growth, but not too much that 100 point games will become irrelevant anytime soon.

I'd love to have them run a rogue squadron pack with 3 Xwings and 12 pilot cards....but that ship sailed with the release of a Wedge Antillies, Corran Horn, and Tycho Celchu as their own cards. Unless they made new version cards for these pilots and kept them as Unique (like how you can't have a Luke Skywalker pilot and Luke Skywalker crew member in your list).

What do you think the little dot beside all of the named pilots name's is for?

Don't be a derp, you know what I mean, a new version of the card keeping the unique rules so you don't have a Tycho A-Wing and Tycho X-Wing on the table at the same time. You need to cool your jets if you are still buttmad about the 'travesty post'.

I understand what you mean. I'm just trying to work out why you're mentioning it because there is already a rule in the game that prevents you from taking Luke in his X-Wing and Luke as a crew member in the same list. The very same rule would prevent you from taking Tycho in his A-Wing as well as Tycho in his X-Wing (or whatever other duplication they may create).

Speaking of which has anyone identified all of the pilots in the GR75 transport? There is a PS8 pilot in there that could be Tycho or Corran flying their X-Wings instead.

I know the pilot skill 8 is Wes. Then the five is Hobbie. Porkins is a 7. Not sure who the 3 is. Someone in another post was able to decipher it.

Fair enough, still it is quite possible for them to do this at a later date.

I agree. I would like to see Tycho in an X-wing or Wedge in an A-wing.
