4 wave 4 pilots I hadn't seen yet!

By Rakky Wistol, in X-Wing

If cloaking is indeed swapping att/AG and one of the upgrades lets you cloak after an attack, free focus on 4-7 dice for defense the rest of the round is pretty nice. I don't know how stay boosting fx would interact but it could happen.

Corran is doing an action and prohibiting a ship from attacking him/ally.

Rexlar is stealing/passing/giving out token(s) to allies.

Blount is preventing something.

On Whisper, I had similar thoughts, but it feels weak at that PS.

Depends on how badly (s)he needs focus tokens, I guess.

Hmm. The defender is in 1/280 scale?!?

Corran Horn: At the start of the activation phase you may perform one attack. You cannot attack again this round.

That's my guess.

That could be really good... don't know how i would feel about no token attack, but Advanced sensors will shine here basically giving you the attack version of Dark Curses ability. Here's it's best use in my mind...

Focus with Advanced Sensors

Attack with Pilot ability

4 K-Turn (assuming it has it)

No. They're all on the same scale.

I just checked again. Either it's a typo or the scale is different for the defender

It's a typo. The scale is not going to change for a single ship for no reason.

That could be really good... could have the opposite effect of dark curse (but you not getting a action as well) also would be interesting getting two good shots at range 1 off. Another thing to think about is it would be great before K-Turning.

Attack at range 1

Attack at range 1 again with pilot ability

4 K-turn (assuming they have it)

I hope they keep attacks in the combat phase. Both to keep my interceptors alive with a fighting chance and just for cleaner game progression.

Quick note for you all on the Tie Defender dial:

It does not have any one speed maneuvers except for the K-Turn. So it cannot have red one turns. How do I know this? Because every ship spoiled shows the first maneuver on its dial. And K-Turns go last in each speed category.

Furthermore, I think it is odd that the Z-95 does not have a green 1 bank. Perhaps it had greens more like the Tie Bomber?

As for the pilot abilities:

I expect Corran's to read something like this: At the start of the (combat phase) you may perform (a free evade action) if you cannot attack any legal targets. An alternate possibility is that you choose to give up your attack to gain the evade.

As for Whisper. It likely gives a free focus if you hit an enemy. This is actually decent because a) the tie phantom has four dice making hits likely and b) because cloaking probably takes up your action every turn leaving no action for defense.

Rexler's ability is the most intriguing to me, and my guess is that when you hit an opponent with an attack, they gain either an ion token or a stress token. I think ion would be pretty cool (plus the card art shows the defender loosing an ion volley...)

Thoughts?

Could Rexler's ability possibly explain the evade token that comes with the defender?

basically yeah, that is how I read it. Though I would bet that the speed 1 turns are red, the 2's white and the 3's green

One thing I doubt they will change is no ship has all three turn speeds. maybe red 1s, whit e 2s, no 3s

For a ship that is supposed to be crazy stupid maneuverable, I don't think that is pushing it.

Another guess...

Rexler: After you perform an attack that deals at least 1 damage card to the defender, you may receive 1 stress token to flip one dealt card faceup.

I've gotta say, for not being a fan of the EU stuff and being on the fence about this wave, whether I wanted it (the completionist in me) or not (the original trilogy and nothing more), after seeing the previews a few weeks back, I wasn't much impressed. The ships looked "clunky" and weird, and I just didn't know how I truly felt. I was sure then that I would at least get one of each (to satisfy that OCD completionist), but more than that seemed frivolous, even though I know the value of squads and have several multiples of all the ships, sans the YT and Firespray.

However....

...after clicking on these links (thanks Rakky Wistol) and seeing the ships packaged up and looking "official", I'm excited about them again!! My wallet is about to suffer because I see multiples in my future again. Excitement abounds!

Great find.

I don't think they made a typo on the TIE Defender, they probably had scale it back a touch to make it fit in the package. Those wing take up a lot of space. If it doesn't fit in the package then, they have to spend more money on package design. More/new packaging costs money which would cut into their profits or raise the cost to the consumer. The scale doesn't really matter that much, actually you don't need the model to play, you could just use the bases. Having the model just makes it more fun.

I snagged the images so we don't have to keep jumping back to the links.

Almost certain Rexlar's ability says "token to f...".

"Friendly ships"- doesn't wording usually use "allied".

"Focus"- as in focus tokens. Change evade tokens to focus? Changing focus to evade wouldn't really help much.

No, they usually say friendly (look at Howlrunner and Jonus, for instance).

Pretty sure jehan is right, you can take a stress to flip one damage over. Basically, he always crits one hit that connects.

Oops on the k-turn. I rad something about it here and then my eyes totally tricked me into actually seeing it that way...

Edit: and going back over it, it even misread that wrong...

I'm embarrassed.

Could Rexler's ability possibly explain the evade token that comes with the defender?

If you look at the word that is cut off, it looks like "fl" so it could be "flip"

Just a side not here: I can't find any information about a character named "Whisper" that was a Tie Phantom pilot. Could this be the first made-up pilot for the game?

Maybe something like... as long as your attack hits, spend a focus token to flip one damage card... that could be cool

It could be something really dirty.

What? I'm just thinking of something that's never been in X-Wing before. Perhaps the TIE Defender is attempting to attract mature audiences with this ability.

I would think so. There were never any pilots mentioned or seen in Rebel Assault II or EaW. That is probably why FFG went with a vague, ghosty sounding code name.

I don't remember any squadron names mentioned either. Has anyone deciphered what those are yet?

There was a Sigma Squadron, and it looks like that could be the first one…the other has a longer name, and i wouldn't be surprised at all if FFG just made it up.
