OMG, is that going to be one seriously competitive tournament. Wow.

No kidding. Piqsid, sozin, and at least three or four other guys who are all world-class players... It's going to be right on the cusp of moving day, for me, and I'm not sure if I want to be able to go or want to have an ironclad excuse not to.

What's the source on this? I haven't heard of any of the places getting notification of regionals, and that timeline doesn't seem to fit quite right to me.

The source is the store's website.

the source is dice dojo's website, which is the link i provided

I'm down like a clown Charlie Brown. 10+ hour event. Let's do this! Happy birthday me! Save me a spot in the top 16 please.

Saw a local store (in AZ) announce they got a call yesterday about being selected for a Netrunner Regional. Between that news and this, I am hopeful we'll get an official master list shortly from FFG.

Now, to figure out how to get to Chicago this July...

Sweet! I've been to the Dice Dojo for a couple of SWM Regionals and it's pretty convenient to get to as far as Chicago is concerned. Plenty of free parking available on the side streets behind it.

I think the main conflict will be finances for those going to gencon a few weeks later.

I'm curious as to what will be released/"legal" for Regionals. I assumed just Imperial Aces, but I also assumed Regionals wouldn't happen as late as July 26th. Wondering specifically what the timing on those new X-Wing pilots might be. I would assume not for Regionals, but that's a tight window before Gencon so maybe not then either?

Three or four? Try closer to fifteen, easily. Chicago group, given. Wisconsin groups, Indy group, Michiganders, Minneapolis groups, Omaha group is road tripping for it. I wouldnt be surprised to see some high caliber Canadians either. I will try to be there if my wife's summer con vending schedule is open that weekend.

I was thinking about just the guys who play there regularly, but you're probably right. And as far as Michiganders, you might get all two of us--me and RogueThirteen! I'll help round out the just-barely-missed-the-cut crew. :P

Please, you are likely to get the Larson caravan. Now, he isn't likely to bring all 3 kids that play (2 are a bit young for such a tournament, his daughter is possible, though). And it is quite likely he will fill his van, so at least 8?

Yeah I figured Eric would be coming down. Would you make the trip borg?

i sent an e-mail a while back asking about their 'plan, promote, execute' schedule for tournaments and got no reply. i'm not very sure how they schedule things. the fact that this is 3 weeks before gencon really reduces the ability for some people to show up.

not to be hypercritical, i am a person who has a lot of experience planning events. i know that putting a tentative schedule to help plan is always smart. for example, they should let stores know when they will be soliciting for events. as soon as solicitation is complete, a promotion cycle should start, but another cycle of solicitation should start. that way, during the event execution cycle, you can also do another promotion cycle. promoting future events AT current events is one of the best ways to increase future attendance.

to illustrate the issue, store championships were solicited back in november, but weren't announced until a week after the store championship cycle had begun in february. right now, with just a few weeks left in the store championship cycle, we are starting to find out when and where the next cycle will be. we know when and where the national and world tournaments will be, but cannot plan around regional tournaments because we are left wondering. we had thought they would skip april and use may & june for regionals. that would leave july free for people's budgets to get to gencon.

this has left our club in central indiana with scheduling difficulties. we though doing an event in late july would be safe. alas, not only was it not safe, dice dojo picked the exact date we were looking at using. the sooner we know these regional dates & locations, the better off everyone will be.

does anyone know if there is going to be a "may the fourth be with you" event this year?

Yeah, my wife is vending at a local con that weekend, so I'm likely out for Dice Dojo. And she's vending at a national con the weekend of Gencon, so I'm likely missing that one, too.

As to the 4th, I had assumed, and an assumption is all it is, that FFG would be hosting a Regional tournament at their venue that weekend. It would only make sense on a lot of fronts. But until we get a more concrete schedule, no one can say for sure. I'm sure Steve would love to get the word out asap, but you've got to remember that they are trying to coordinate schedules for regionals for many of their games, not just X-wing. So, I guess patience is all we can have for now until more words leak out.

multitasking is an art and scheduling is part of that .
i have had to coordinate similar things. i know it isn't easy, but it is possible

so, no word on any others yet?

Vorpal - Are you part of the Lansing crowd?

Theres been word, but many stores were asked not to announce yet until all stores were notified.

A friend of mine that lives in Chicago, and frequents the DoJo quite often mentioned this to me. He pitched it to me as "a large X-wing tournament". My response was, "That sounds an awful lot like a Regional..."

Up for a car pool Johdo?

That's a possibility. I know due to child, GenCon is out but i may be able to swing this. I'll keep you posted...

If i bribe my buddy with enough beer, he'll let us crash at his place. (it's right around the corner from the DoJo).

On my own, if i was going to be able to go, i was just going to jump on Amtrak from the Dearborn station. If you want to drive, I'll see if he has parking at his place.

Now the real question is...will it be fun? I tend to find super competitive events bring out the worst in the playerbase.

I'm hoping to be able to make this one, I live over by Rockford, so not too far away... this does sound like it will have a good turn out..
