Played my first game of X-Wing the other night and what an awesome game. Picked up the starter kit and a Y-Wing and going to be getting more ships.

However, I am after more upgrade cards and was wondering if there is a way to get them without having to get the ships for more?

There are people selling just upgrade cards on ebay but generally you need to buy the ships to get the upgrades. So if you get at least 1 of each expansion pack you will cover most of the upgrades in the quantities you want. Most upgrades are tailored to the ship they come with but you can of course mix and match.

Yes it would be nice if they did sell upgrade card packs.
