Scenario's?

Does anyone actually play them or is it always a dogfight?

This game does well as just dog fighting but I always find scenarios add so much to a game. I am guilty of just throwing down, so I was curious if anyone had any experience using scenarios and if/how much they actually add to the experience.

I like to run scenarios as well, the dogfights are fun, and I can easily imagine an Interdictor ship has pulled a random rebel ship or two out of hyperdrive and commenced attacks... but I do run a scenario created by a friend. Its a "Hoth power generator attack" but can be used for any given location, especially since it calls for a HWK and an A wing on the rebels side. Its a fun game to run, but I tweak it a little to make it a little more fair for the rebel side too.. the Imperials have 3 TIE/ln, and 3 bombers, where the rebels only get 3 ships as he wrotenit. Wedge being the third ship, along with the Awing and the HWK.

My favorite scneraio is the political escort mission from the core set. I use a 3D printed mini from TOPO on Shapeways.com. It is megafun. My buddy just got one too, so we'll have to play a 200 point two shuttle mission.

Asteroid Storm

Start the game with six asteroids in standard play. After each combat phase, each player lays one additional asteroid into play. Set up rules apply, so no asteroids can be within range 1 of anything. It works really well if you have 2+ core sets.

Mine Sweeper

Using the proximity mine token from the Firespray expansion, trace and cut six additional tokens from cardboard, felt, or flexi-foam. Each played lays 3+ proximity mines onto the field of play during set up.

Treat as normal proximity mines.

May use mine miniatures. (I bought some from Mel on Shapeways).

Scenarios make the game.

I'm with you, Errant. I always want to try scenarios, but it always somehow ends up being 100-point dogfight. But it sounds like we might be changing that in the local group... =D

There are lots of good user made scenarios out there but FFG really needs to look at putting out more of scenarios or maybe even a scenario book.

I played my first scenario, Mission #5 "Preystalker" (featured with the Firespray [slave 1]), a couple of weeks ago as part of league play at my LGS. This Thursday, we're playing Mission #6 "Undeniable Assets" (featured with the Lambda-Class Shuttle).

The idea behind playing the missions as part of league play is. simply, to change things up from the standard dogfight.
To keep things going, I hope Imperial Aces will have a few missions with the pack.

I know Imperial Aces comes with one new mission. And if I recall correctly the Transport comes with three and the Tantive comes with six.

My wife and I really enjoy playing scenarios far more than standard 100 point games. We are looking forward to the new Cinematic play mode to link the scenarios together. I love the idea that if Luke (or any named pilot) is shot down in one mission he cannot be used in the following missions. I feel the scenarios really add to the game and shake things up from standard play. Puts me in the Star Wars universe more.
