Spellbound - Psychic Powers without Psy Rating.

By Richpur, in Black Crusade Rules Questions

While creating a Daemon Weapon as awarded by Tzeentch (Page 302), we rolled Spellbound (Page 199) as an attribute; giving the weapon one psychic power cast 'using the willpower and any psy rating of the imprisoned daemon'.

The profiles for Horrors (and all other daemons other than princes; page 354) do not include a Psy Rating, their psychic abilities instead being implemented as weapons or traits.

Pretty much every psychic power uses PR to determine some aspect of its effects; and most have PR or another power as a prerequisite.

From what the group has been able to determine, this leaves this attribute only able to manifest one of these psychic powers:

1) Creating a fist size ball of flame explicitly stated to be of no combat value.

2) Sending thoughts to people inside 0 miles (i.e. touching the weapon).

3) Telekinetic pushing of people in contact with the weapon.

4) Manifesting Harrier Imps on its own wielder.

I presume somewhere between the creation of the three chapters in question there was a communication failure.

Have I/we missed something? Is there an alternative to house ruling in PRs for daemons? Is this particular 'perk' intentionally useless?

The Daemon-Weapon Reward as listed is kinda useless. Woopee, I get a generic Lesser Daemon imprisoned in my sword, gun whatever. Thanks o great and awesome Chaos God.

Especially when one can just go and make a better daemon weapon pretty easily, oh well not that easily but its still far from impossible, and then you can even choose the exact daemon you want in your weapon.

The GM should in this case design a daemon for the purpose of imprisonment in the weapon. Perhaps a Herald, or even a Daemon Prince or Greater Daemon. Design it from the ground up, skills, talents, traits, psychic powers, personality, motivations... After all, the daemon might get free one day. And its infinitely more interesting than having Pink Horror 23 in your gun.

Tbh, Pink Horror stats in BC (and DW, and OW when they get written in...) suck. Really, they should have PR 3, even if they've got no psychic powers. At least. My advice? Use the Daemon Generation tables from DH's Daemonhunter book to make a Daemon for a Daemon weapon. At the very least there, your Pink Horror will have PR 3, maybe 4 if they roll Sorcerer on Lesser Gifts. Certainly this is what I did when a player in my campaign got a Daemon Weapon from their god.
