Target lock on Tie ?

By DrMiyu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello Guys,

I faced an issue this weekend about target lock. The rule says;

"Each ship capable of performing this action can maintain only one target lock"

There are my questions

1- Can a ship have 2 TL icons (Example Wedge with a targeting computer)?

==> I think about a combo Wedge Dutch :-P. Ok Wedge can't do two 2 TL at the same round but he could do one then receives another from Dutch.

2- If yes I suppose he can hold them for the next round.

2- Does a ship that doesn't have the Icon TL can received one?

==> I think no but I'm not sure, because he could used it within the round and lost it at the end of it.

2A - If yes would it keep it for the next round?

2B - If no then the lambda is even worts than I tough :-/

Thank for the help

1. Nope, Targeting Computer just adds the target lock action to an action bar, it does not change that the ship can only maintain 1 Target Lock.

2. It has been ruled that target lock tokens can still be passed to ships with no target lock action, which can hold it until used.

1.- A ship can only maintain one Target Lock at any given time. If you were granted another target lock while already possessing one, you must give up the older lock in order to acquire the new one. Also, you can't re-acquire a target lock on the same ship you have already locked. The obvious exception to this rule is the crew upgrade 'weapons engineer' which allows a ship to maintain 2 simultaneous target locks on different ships.

2.- A ship without the target lock icon on its action bar can't perform target lock actions, but IT CAN RECIVE target lock TOKENS, if they are passed from a nearby ship ability, (like Col. Jendon, for example)

2A.- Those 'passed' target lock tokens can be kept from round to round till they are spent. They are normal target lock tokens for all regards.

Just to clear up one thing,

Target lock tokens normally stay from turn to turn, unless used, or the "locked" ship is destroyed - in which case the tokens are cleared.

A ship can have one "blue/green" target lock token assigned to it, unless it has the Weapons Engineer crew upgrade, in which case it can maintain two locks.

Ok thank for your answers :-)

The exception to the one ship - one lock rule is the Weapons Engineer who allows a ship to maintain two simultaneous locks.

If you were granted another target lock while already possessing one, you must give up the older lock in order to acquire the new one.

I thought a second ship couldn't grant you a target lock if you already had one (weapons engineer notwithstanding)? That the only way to replace a TL without using it was to perform the action yourself?

Rulebook page 9:Target lock tokens are only removed if the locking ship either acquires a target lock on a different ship or spends the target lock during the Combat phase.

Does not seems like you need to perform the action yourself. You only need to acquire a TL.

Jendon can only hand someone a TL token who does not already have one.

Dutch does not have such a limitation. Neither does FCS. Both allow you to acquire a TL.
