Alpha Squadron Pilot (18)

two very similar lists. thoughts on which one is strongest? extra ship or extra attack dice?

imo squad two is less reliant on howlrunner if she gets taken out early.

Probably the first.

Buzzsaw shuttle flanker huh? Might work since it's no longer tied to howlrunner.

I've ran Vader shuttle swarm with a few named. If you are going to run howlrunner I think the FCS/gunner/Eu points can be spent upgrading ties. Go with a Vader shuttle with maybe advanced sensors. Upgrade a few ties to shoot before Vader to maximize crits and keep 1-2 academies for bumps. At least that's what I've flown before.

I think first list is best. primarily because then the only primary target is Howlrunner. I could see that list 2 has 3 primary targets, but once She's gone, the interceptors are toast. Now that i think about it though…List 2 could very well be the stronger list because it gives 3 primary targets to choose from, and while most opponents would choose howl runner - you're likely to have killed and enemy ship within the round they kill howl runner, and are then more able to keep your Interceptors alive via BR and Boost. Not to mention the Beauteous Chasm Whale flanking with extreme prejudice. List 2!!!

An opponent with a group of PS4 ships focussing on her could tear Howlrunner apart before you can do much in return, a good opening shooting phase would scupper the list, I think I'd also look to drag the formation into an asteroid field to make things tricky for the shuttle to follow. I'd go with perhaps a black squadron pilot or unnamed Interceptors, something that could roam a little more freely and give the opponent something to think about or at least be able to break off and cover the shuttle's behind.

I've had success with the first. I also think it is a bit stronger than the second, as that one extra ship will make a big difference. Usually I end up with 2 APs and the Buzzsaw left against roughly 1/2 rebel ships, which feels stronger than Buzzsaw and 1 Alpha. At that point the shuttle becomes a good target, so APs run interference or keep the enemy busy while the Buzzsaw turns back in.

Yeah, I think the first list is better. I know it was mentioned that the Interceptor have Barrel Roll and Boost. However, they have such low PS that you won't know where the enemy is going to be before you have to make that decision. It's one of the reasons that PS really enhances the Interceptor.

Then again, I'm not really that good at running swarms. I'm much better at non-formation flying.

Still, good luck and let us know how you do. :)

Mr. Bomber Sir,

I tore list one apart on Saturday with 3 Omicron Pilots with Adv. Sensors, Gunner and Engine Upgrade.

I rammed the ties and shot up Howl, then shot up the Buzzsaw.

Be careful of a similar tactic.

good feedback guys. im thinking intelligence agent on the shuttle could be useful for 'cheat blocking'. it will mean dropping swarm tactics and going at 99pts which seems like a fair trade-off. this should actually make the alpha's job as flankers easier as well (if i went with list 2) and virtually guarantee a block on a key ship with the academy pilots.

He shoulda rammed the Buzzsaw into the other shuttles, parked the Buzzsaw, and swooped the swarm around :)

On another note, that sounds like a great way to use the Advanced sensor shuttles! Ram the front line, shoot behind! It's cooler than B wings doing it...the Shuttle is scarier!

I really liked the mini swarm shuttle and did well over the weekend. I ran 3 ob-ties, Turr and the shuttle. Post how you do I was thinking next time I want to run the first list you have.

Bomber, you should try this fot some fun:

Buzzsaw

Saber + PTL

Saber + PTL

Howlrunner

98pts

Leaves 2 pts for upgrades if wanted.

I've recently been using:

Buzzsaw

Saber + PTL

Howlrunner + swarm

Academy

Academy

So far i'm 5-0 up with this list. Howlrunner always draws plenty of attention, leaving the sabre to flank and get behind. The shuttle tends to get ignored even though it has racked up the most kills so far! I find it a good balanced list...

Is it too off base to suggest your Buzzsaw, with Backstabber, Winged Gundark, and 4 x Academy pilots? I might put the shuttle toward the middle, and split the 4 Academy to one flank, with the 2 named on the other. No matter where your opponent focuses, something bad is coming around the back.

thats 111pts, i think u mean Backstabber, Winged Gundark, and 3 x Academy pilots?

i think the threat of howlrunner is worth the risk - its possible to hide her behind the shuttle at the first engagement and use omicron as a blocker to prevent them rushing her.

From the title, I thought you were going to run the 4 shuttle list, lol. Saw that a couple weeks ago. It was funny at first but turned out pretty much like you'd expect.
