Quick Strike, Lethal Blow, and other combat talents applicable to Space combat?

By Ceodryn, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

The question says it all. Can talents that are applicable to combat, be applicable to space combat?

Thanks

Well reading over at least the first two you have listed. Lethal strike is only on Crit injury, and ships take crit hit. Quick strike I believe would be able to use in ship combat. If it doesn't state that it is for melee or for injuries, there is a possibility some other combat talents can be used in space combat.

I personally have had players use quick strike when they had the drop on the enemy.

Thanks, I had not realized a Critical Injury was labelled differently than a Critical Hit . My mind just put them all under Crits.

it's easy to get the two mixed together. just have to read the description. if it sounds for just ground combat then it's a good chance it's only for ground, but the GM makes the final call on that.

You really have to read the talent description, there's just no way to say definitively one way always. I'd say Quick Strike is fine but Barrage is only for non starship weapons.

Dodge?

Only of the ship is firing at YOU and not the ship

Hey, maybe you're just the kind that takes everything like that personally!

I've ruled a "no" on this in my campaign, but that's just my opinion.

I see what you did there.

My interpretations from the Talents section as to whether a non-melee/non-starship only talents are applicable in starship combat with reasons.

Anatomy Sessions (N) - Specifies non-starship.

Barrage (Y) - Includes Gunnery and Close ship combat is comparable to Extreme Ranger personal combat.

Body Guard (Y) - Totally viable to save someone from an exploding console.

Brace (N) - This one is debatable as to whether or not you allow it to ignore cover as environmental conditions but I would say that ship armor is not environmental.

Crippling Blow (N) - System strain every time the ship moves is extreme. Also it's supposed to be able to target a person aka acquisition.

Deadly Accuracy (N) - Specifies non-starship.

Defensive Slicing (Y) - Slice enemy systems, it's in the starship combat section.

Disorient (N) - You can't disorient a ship just because your able to do it to a person.

Expert Tracker (Y) - Totally following Ion Trails or Hyperspace trajectories.

Field Commander (Y) - This is pretty spectacular letting everyone take extra free actions especially in a fighter squadron.

Heightened Awareness (Y) - This talent could use some love.

Hunter (Y) - I've seen the giant space creatures this totally applies.

Inspiring Rhetoric (Y) - Politico's are super valuable party members and I missed it entirely.

Intimidating (Y) - The caveat to this would require a holo transmission for me to allow it.

Jump Up (Y) - I'm hoping real soon to rock the boat and knock the folks over.

Kill With Kindness (Y) - Commlinks would totally add setbacks making this talent super viable for the team or for getting the enemy to back off.

Lethal Blows (N) - Being able to inflict better Criticals onto players doesn't translate to ship weaknesses, even discounting the verbiage difference between Injury & Hit.

Master of Shadows (Y) - These seems perfect, naturally being adept at concealing yourself would give you instinctual know how to hide in the right place on an asteroid to evade detection. (Watch Babylon 5: Call to Arms if you want an example)

Master/Natural Talents - These are obvious if they apply to the skills used so not listing them.

Nobody's Fool (Y) - For the same reasons as all the other socials.

Outdoorsman (Y) - For vehicles on traveling through the terrain only, space obstacles don't count.

Overwhelm Emotions (N) - I mean yeah Vader & Obiwan can detect you from a distance but I'm betting Sense is a wider net than most Force powers.

Plausible Deniability (Y) - Oh yes certainly. I'm lying to your face through a commlink, that's got to be easier.

Point Blank (N) - Does not include Gunnery also ship range is significantly farther than Short personal scale range.

Precise Aim (Y) - Aiming with a ship's gun is the same as any other I don't see any reason why not.

Quick Strike (Y) - Catching your opponent unaware or acting before they are prepared are just as viable in a starship.

Rapid Reaction (Y) - Initiative is Initiative.

Scathing Tirade (Y) - Commlinks are awesome.

Second Wind (Y) - It's still an encounter but personal strain is kind of meaningless.

Sense Danger (Y) - "The Force is strong with this one."

Sense Emotions (N) - Same reason as Overwhelm Emotions the Force isn't that specific for a single person from so far away.

Shortcut (Y) - I hope someday to use this in a speeder chase.

Skilled Slicer (Y) - This sounds like a great way to force eject a pursuing pilot.

Smooth Talker (Y) - Social skills are always viable.

Sniper Shot (N) - Personal scale isn't Planetary scale. It's a big difference versus aiming further down the street versus aiming to the next moon.

Soft Spot (N) - Specifies non-starship.

Spare Clip (N) - The intention is clearly to have the extra reloads appear but unjamming a starship weapon is a different matter.

Speaks Binary (Y) - How many times do you see an astromech as the nav computer, this just got surprisingly useful.

Stalker (Y) - Same as Master of Shadows, but only if they are in the cockpit.

Strong Arm (N) - Ships don't use thrown weapons also planetary & personal scale are not interchangeable. Throwing things from a speeder tho might need to revisit it versus stationary targets.

Swift (Y) - As with Outdoorsman only when on a planets surface but totally viable.

Targeted Blow (N) - Specifies non-starship.

Technical Aptitude (Y) - Sliiiiiiiicing!

Touch of Fate (Y) - Why not?

True Aim (Y) - Same as Precise Aim.

Uncanny Reactions (Y) - <insert Vader quote>

Uncanny Senses (Y) - I'm more on the fence about this one but still inclined to say yes.

So I got less creative at the end and there's a lot there and left off everything from AoR and other non-core supplements but the "Yes...and" mandate says that unless it completely is nonsensical let the players do it! It'll make the game more fun, even defeat is fun in this game.
