Pre-orders

By deadlyflorist, in X-Wing

I noticed that miniatures market has the wave 4 stuff up for pre-order, does anyone know if this is legit, or are they simply putting it up as soon as they can?

Basically I'm wondering if I should pre-order now or wait a bit.

What do you mean by legit? They know they are going to be getting them eventually and they want people to order from them. If you pre order with them you'll get the figs as soon as MM gets them and can get them shipped to you, so yes it's legit, it not a scam, but they're not going to get them any faster than anyone else, and no one knows when that will be yet.

I pre-ordered mine, but you have plenty of time. About the only thing pre-ordering now will do is put you closer to the front of the line if they don't get everything in their shipment on the first day.

And, for me it makes sure I don't spend that money on something else. ;)

This appears to be a common practice for the X-Wing stuff with it's long announcement to delivery periods. It gives the company a chance to secure some extra orders so I would certainly do the same if I was in their position.

I have a going theory that when the time finally comes and they get the stock in, the earliest pre-orders get serviced first. There is a chance, however unlikely, that they will find a weakness, and exploit it - wait, no - that they won't get quite enough stock in on the first shipment to fulfill all their pre-orders. I think they usually get a second batch around a week after the first one.

So, if you want Wave 4, order it soon, and hopefully, you'll be among the first shipment receivers instead of waiting for your shipment to come in while everyone else is posting "I luv em I luv em I luv em!"

Oh, don't get me started about MM and pre-orders...

This appears to be a common practice for the X-Wing stuff

I don't think it is x-wing stuff, I think it is online retailers. There have been several instances of online stores putting 40k stuff up for pre-order based exclusively on rumors, and getting burned by it once or twice when the actual retail price ended up being higher than was rumored and they had to fulfill orders at a lower price than they would have.

I don't know about MM regarding pre-orders of Wave 4 but my FLGS had them for pre-order for 20% off the Tuesday following FFG's announcement on the previous Friday. In fact I'm waiting on over $300 of pre-orders for IA, the 2 big ships and wave 4.

I have pre-ordered my Imperial Aces and the Rebel Transport a good while ago with a local Dutch online store, I think FFG allows stores to put up the pre-orders quite early in the process to get a good idea of the amount of miniatures they will have to produce. Kind of prognoses of future sales if you want...

My FLGS tracks when they can preorder for me - I just place my preorders with them whenever I want, and they'll send me a mail as soon as they get the games.

If you are going to preorder, from any location, make sure that you have separate orders for different "waves".

All of wave four should be separate from anything thing else. Aces, on their own. Tantive IV, Rebel Transport, both separate.

Otherwise they will hold the entire order until each ship arrives.
I made that mistake during the "Great Expansion Shortage of 2013", ordered a couple X-Wing and Tie expansions along with Wave Two. Needless to say I ended up missing out on launch day and had to go back through and change my order.

well you can pre order and get the stuff cheaper or not pre order and get scalped or Waite a few extra months... I didn't pre order any wave 3 stuff. I was on vacation when it came in, i got an email saying it was in stock. decided to eat breakfast and sip my coffee first. went back on line and everything was GONE... well most everything, i was able to pick up a few HWKs... So now i pre order and its significantly cheaper... but i hate having my money tied up ... and i hate waiting period but who doesn't? I figure if its with a known company and one that takes paypal you shouldn't have any problems... what i find odd now is that my local barnes & nobel always has a better selection than the local game store!! actually i think its just a comic book store now...

Miniature Market's preorder price and standard price are always the same for Star Wars X-Wing products.

If it is listed at $9.99(USD) for the Wave Four product preorder then their standard price will be $9.99.

Miniature Market's Star Wars listing.

I believe this is the same for Cool Stuff inc as well. Not exactly sure sense I rarely do business with them.

yeah but when they don't have it in stock and you buy it elsewhere you pay more... particularly if you want it really bad and its really scarce.(or new).lol simple ECON 101..lol supply and demand!! I once saw Y wings on EBAY for nearly 200 USD!! crazy!!
