This is a story about the campaign I am currently running (we just started). I will update it as we go through the campaign for those of you who might be interested. (note: I'm not clear on most of the names that the players chose so I will put those in when I find out).
The Valkyrie- the Valkyrie is a millennia old ship in service to the rogue trader's family. The ship has a few quirks though, there is a piece of archeotech onboard the ship that was discovered to be able to produce food from molecular refuse, also there is a royal family who has seized the main cargo hold and built a castle there, a popular pastime on the ship is laying siege to the castle.
Here are the characters (names coming soon)
- Rogue Trader (Cameron Royce) - originally from Cadia his family was given a warrant of trade, after a tour in the imperial Navy he was given command of the Valkyrie.
-Void Master (Katyana)- the pilot of the Valkyrie, not much is known about her backstory.
- Ork Freeboota (Grum)- originally a freeboota on some ork ship he was blown out the airlock (with a voidsuit on) during a massive battle and after a few hours bumped into the Valkyrie, he then knocked on the airlock and the rogue trader gave him a job. he is self proclaimed "hed of security".
- Arch Militant - a veteran guardsman who always has a story about his glorious battles (most wildly exaggerated) for some unknown reason he stowed away on the Valkyrie to escape imperial law and was caught by the crew. He took a crewmember hostage and after a heated negotiation was given a job as the rogue trader's bodyguard.
- Seneschal (Trodai)- not much known about this master of spies, he seems to know everything that is going on around the ship and has spies everywhere.
- Navigator (Fharquad Godwinne)- a Navigator from one of the houses on terra, a very wealthy lord and not quite used to life on a starship yet.
(815. M41) The Valkyrie came out of the warp on the outskirts of the system, thousands of kilometers before it lay Port Wander. The Valkyrie was an old ship, long past her days of glory and in dire need of repair and refueling. It had been travelling through the warp for weeks in order to reach this point and the crew felt pride as they dropped out of the warp. Port Wander was the last shining beacon of humanity before the Maw that lead to the Koronus Expanse, where wealth and adventure await the brave sailors who dare to venture out there. Everybody onboard knew the journey ahead would be long and dangerous but spirits were high as the ship pulled into the starport docks.
As the ship docked the crew went about their tasks of refitting and refueling. While they were busy the rogue trader and his retinue went about looking for a job. The rogue trader was a child of Cadia and a veteran of the imperial navy, as such he was quite at home here on this station and quickly, after a few conversations, found his crew a job escorting the ship of another Rogue Trader named Aestaban Von Yorke along with a small fleet who were planning to pass through the Maw. With a few days before they leave the crew prepares for the dangerous journey ahead.
The meager fleet left a few days later after all ships have been refueled and refitted. The ships managed to easily make a translation into the warp but then immediately ran into trouble as the Valkyrie's Navigator was unable to find the Astronomicon and got lost briefly in the warp, stretching the week long journey to the first waystation into a month long journey through the warp. (816.M41) the ship made translation back into realspace where a full year has passed. The Valkyrie came out of the warp on the edge of a massive ancient battlefield full of the rusting hulks of what used to be imperial and ork ships, the Von Yorke Fleet was nowhere in sight. After a brief debate the Rogue trader declares they have lost too much time to search the wrecks and must make translation in order to catch up with the Von Yorke Fleet.
The next translation went a great deal smoother than the first and the navigator brought the ship out of the warp at the edge of a system where a dead world orbited a dying sun. Without wasting any time the navigator jumped the ship back into the warp. This time when the ship translated back into realspace they saw the remains of the Von Yorke fleet fighting a loosing battle against corsairs. The four raiders had ambushed the Von Yorke fleet when they translated from the warp and had destroyed a ship before the fleet could strike back. The Valkyrie rushed into battle immediately crippling a ship and sending the rest scattering from this unexpected attack. As the raiders fled the Valkyrie's void master ordered all guns to fire on the fleeing raider, crippling the engine of one. The Valkyrie launched a boarding action against the crippled ship and after a lengthy battle the ship was taken and looted before being destroyed. With the location of the Von Yorke fleet discovered and an overwhelming victory behind them the crew was in high spirits as they sailed forward into the unknown.
