FFG SWRPG Release Schedule Discussion/Speculation

By Internutt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I see the beginner game was updated to 'on the boat'. So with that I'd expect we will have beginner set in April, CRB in May, and the GM kit in June, and that will wrap up Q2. Now what will we have for July and the beginning of Q3? Hopefully it is safe to expect F&D in August.

Personally I'm thinking perhaps something for EoE in July, roll out F&D in August, and something for AoR in September, maybe an adventure or adventure/sourcebook.

I hope we can get the F&D Beta online as well as at Gen Con.

I believe AoR was so I would assume it will remain the same for F&D.

FFG typically releases core rulebooks and GM screens at the same time. I expect both in June.

Here are my speculations. Looking over the last year, going from Q3 2013 to Q2 2014, Fantasy Flight Games have managed to publish 1 Core Rulebook, 1 Beginner Game, 1 GM Screen, 1 Beta playtest book and 5 sourcebooks/adventures. I predict that FFG will keep that release schedule for Q3 2014 to Q2 2015 and maybe add an extra sourcebook.

FFG are committed to releasing a career book for each of the 6 Edge of the Empire careers but I doubt they will do any career book for Age of the Rebellion and I hope they will make a Force traditions sourcebook for Force & Destiny in Q4 2015 or early 2016.

The reason I doubt there will be any Age of Rebellion career books is that I think all kinds of military careers have been covered in the beta/Core Rulebook. Most civilian careers from the EotE Core Rulebook will probably be reprinted in the Force & Destiny Core Rulebook so there will be no need for any F&D career sourcebooks except maybe a sourcebook focusing on non-Jedi Force traditions.

Another thing is that FFG's Star Wars licence last 5 years before it may be renewed. FFG signed the deal in 2012 so 2016 is their last year before renewal which I doubt FFG will do because the Star Wars licence is very expensive and the big moneymaker in the RPG industri is the core rulebook.

In addition to the Core rulebooks and accessories we will get 15 to 17 sourcebooks and adventures. 6 of these will be EotE career books, We got 2 EotE adventures, we will get 1-2 AoR and 1-2 F&D adventures and 3-5 regional sourcebooks and maybe 1-2 sourcebooks on other stuff if FFG keep the current release schedule until 2016.

I hope they at least get out Signature Abilities for each of the careers in all the Core Books. I really like them as a "high level" option.

Well, given they just did a "what's in the box?" article for the Age of Rebellion Beginner Box, that might very well be the next release for FFG, with Jewel of Yavin being a May release if FFG opts to stick to a general schedule of "no more than one Star Wars RPG release a month" as some of us have speculated.

Both Jewel of Yavin and the Age of Rebellion Beginner Game changed to "on the boat" at the same time. Jewel of Yavin is listed as a "March 2014" release, and the AoR Beginner Game is listed as a Q2 release. Sometimes FFG releases get delayed, but I seriously doubt that Jewel of Yavin is going to hit stores two months after the company projects it to.

Most likely, we will see Jewel of Yavin released in March and the AoR Beginner Game in April, possibly May.

There's been a fair amount of updates the last few days. Perhaps we will see some Q3 stuff soon for EoE/AoR.

I'm feeling pretty good about a piece of EoE stuff in July myself, probably a career book. Maybe sneak that out before Gencon. The GM screen for AoR will have the mass combat sutff, so I feel pretty confident for EoE in July.

Yep, AoR GM screen announced just as I suspected. I think this confirms we wI'll not see any further EotE materials until Q3.

No way, i could not disagree more.

Think about it... they are opening 3 lines of stuff on purpose. They will have 3 teams, putting out 3 lines, so there is 3 times the amount of stuff for us completists to buy. OWWW! They kicked me in the pocketbook!

Seriously, I have a feeling all the lines will continually have stuff coming out.

They will have 3 teams...

Not at all likely.

By the sound of interviews and the FFG demo/introduction video it's the same team working on the entire SWRPG line.

Also, products are announced 3/4 months ahead of schedule. The only material due after JoY is age of Rebellion material.

So, if a new EotE book was to be announced next week, it wouldn't be out until July at the earliest.

Not having another sourcebook for EotE announced yet is befuddling.

Edge is still FAR more loved at this point than any of their other RPGs. The poor Black Crusade fans have gone almost a year without hearing anything.

Speak of the devil and 2 days later a brand new book is announced :P
