FFG SWRPG Release Schedule Discussion/Speculation

By Internutt, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I really wish they would have spread out the releases of the three core games a bit further apart. I feel like we're just scratching the surface of EotE, and we don't want to go to AoR just yet. If there's going to be a void of EotE in the release schedule while they get AoR ramped up a bit, that's going to be disappointing.

Just because it comes out, you don't have to start playing it :)

I think releases are locked up through the end of June, with AoR Beginner set and the CRB along with this GM screen set. FFG might be able to sneak something out in July before Gencon although prepping for that and getting F&D beta ready to roll will put some pressure on them, but it's doable. It could be another EoE item. I would expect Sep is going to be something for AoR though and then maybe they will flip flop until they get all the career books out for EoE.

With the supplements that are already out, and AOR around the corner, there already is alot of classes, give me modules.

As the guy who wrote the AOR GM Kit, I can tell you that both the adventure and the optional rules are not to be missed. I went a little crazy and pulled out all the stops.

Please don't take any of this discussion the wrong way. We've been really spoiled by everyone's hard work on EotE, so it's only natural we are a little disappointed in the game taking a back seat for a few months.

I'm looking forward to AoR after taking part in the beta and the entire product line has us all pretty excited right now. Add in F&D and suddenly there's just so much content for the product line scheduled over the next few months to be excited by.

Internutt, I was on the WOTC threads doing the same thing you guys are all doing right now a few years ago during D20, D20R, and Saga Edition. I totally understand how it feels on that side of the fence.

As far as how it is on this side of the fence? I wish I could tell you guys absolutely everything. The hardest part about this job is keeping my mouth shut, believe me. I just want to answer every single question on these forums that I know the answer to, because I know how maddening it is to just sit there and be forced to speculate wildly. But thats also part of the fun, right? Plus, you know, they probably won't hire me again if I just spill all the beans.

All I can say is that I wrote the adventure and optional rules for the GM Kit. I think I wrote something that both hardcore EU fans and casual Star Wars fans alike are going to love. And I really can't wait for it to come out, so I can hear what everyone thinks of it.

Hopefully the plan is to publish 4-6 books for each line per year (which would make some months have 2 books and some have 1 book). Otherwise in regards to the career books I'll start having traumatic flashbacks to waiting for army codex revisions each time a new edition of Warhammer and Warhammer 40K was released.

Wow, mass combat and a cool adventure!

Curses! Now I have to order the AoR screen as well!

Is if there was any chance of me not buying it looking as it does... What a beautiful screen...

So because the three Star Wars games are considered fully separate lines that are fully cross-compatible, I have been wondering if we're ever going to see Age of Rebellion or Force and Destiny branded dice. Or, is the AoR core rulebook going to simply say, "use Edge of the Empire dice" like the beta did?

So - go poke someone in the marketing department for a quickie statement. We don't need a super detailed upcoming product listing or anything - but a "Here's what we're roughly thinking of for a release schedule the three lines" would be awesome. Its just be nice to know if we're going to be in EotE limbo while waiting for the AoR launch to pass.

The dice will be the same.

You'll probably see the dice re-branded, but the appearance of the dice themselves will remain the same.

Although, I would love to get a few sets with a slight color variation.

I don't see them changing the dice, but they could add some new mechanic or system that would allow them to introduce a new kind of die/dice to the game in F&D.

I hope we get more, more often, assuming they can produce the same quality at the accelerated pace. The 3 games are compatible, but they are separate lines. There are completionists out there that HAVE to get everything, but for those that are just into EotE or AoR, etc. a one-book-a-month pace (for each line) would be ideal. You aren't required to get everything on release date either, just move at the pace of your group...grab books and modules when you are ready to incorporate them.

They've only got 2 products in all of their lines listed for Q3, so I'm sure in the not terribly distant future we will see some red, in development, products get posted for the game.

Dunno their financials, but if Beyond the Rim worked for them then it would be reasonable to assume that the next AoR release after the box, core and screen would be an adventure book. That way FFG has a long-format adventure available for all the new customers brought into the line by AoR.

Still hoping for an EotE "coming soon" announcement for the next book in the line before month's end.

The dice will be the same.

Right, well, that goes without saying. My question is more closely related to the following:

You'll probably see the dice re-branded, but the appearance of the dice themselves will remain the same.

Are we going to see the Star Wars dice re-branded as Age of Rebellion dice, and sold in Age of Rebellion dice packs, or are they only going to produce the (same) dice with Edge of the Empire packaging?

I was thinking the same an adventure or some kind of Battle of Hill 123456 sourcebook with some modular stuff and background.

There is a case to be made for them having re-branded dice packs for each line. Logistically, it's changing out a piece of cardboard in the blister, a SKU and stocking.

Branding-wise though, it's easier to have separate branded dice packs since each game line is supposed to be stand-alone yet compatible. So the person who comes into the game with AoR doesn't have a mental disconnect with why he or she is buying Edge of the Empire dice.

Would have been nice if they had an over-arcing name for this system so they could just brand the dice once and every single-game customer would have the same product name & SKU for their dice.

I really don't see this happening. If the dice system is not changing (which it isn't as far as I know), then they shouldn't be messing with the dice at all. If anything, they may adjust the packaging to show the red AoR branding.

I'm somewhat confused by your statement. I asked if we were going to see Edge of the Empire dice rebranded and sold as Age of Rebellion dice. You said, "I don't see this happening," and then stated that you expected them to sell Edge of the Empire dice rebranded as Age of Rebellion dice.

No one expects them to change the dice system, and that's not what I was asking. I'm talking about the piece of cardboard they put in the plastic container.

I misunderstood your question then, I thought you were asking if they were going to change how the dice looked OR if they were going to change the packaging.

I can see them changing the packaging, and I don't really see it making any difference if they do...why would it matter?

Edit: From the standpoint of someone who has already invested in EotE...If you needed more dice, IMHO it shouldn't matter if the package says AoR or EotE on it...

From the standpoint of someone new buying in only for AoR, I can see the EotE dice package maybe causing a little confusion as to whether it goes with the game books they just bought.

Likewise though, it may be initially confusing seeing both options...raising the question as to whether or not the actual dice are different in some way....

I could have phrased my question in a less ambiguous manner, so I apologize for the confusion. I agree with you, though, that there's a good argument for both sides. I was just wondering what people thought. The Star Wars Dice program is system agnostic, but the physical dice aren't labeled as such (even though we know they're the same dice). Presumably we'll know for sure when the Age of Rebellion Core Rulebook is released.

Apologizes. I mean that we would most likely see the dice repackaged, but i would be surprised if they changed the dice in any other way that slapping a red AoR label on it.

Guess I'm in the minority preferring as fast a release schedule as possible. I'd particularly like to see career books for AoR and EotE finished as early as possible, for additional races/ships/droids/equipment options for play and allow them to focus on more content similar along the lines of regional sourcebooks like Corellia "Suns of Fortune" Force and Destiny I'd prefer they go as slow as they need to, to include as much new material as possible from what's new in the canon.

By the end of 2015 we should know a lot more about what EU content has been retconned in canon and will start seeing more licensed products like the new Marvel comics, Rebels, completed Clone Wars series and first of the sequels, possible live action series.

At the point where they have all 3 core games released with career books and a selection of regional sourcebooks that reflect each game line best(Criminal regions for EotE, Rebel hotspots for AoR, Regions shrouded in mystic or mystery for FaD), perhaps we can start seeing sourcebooks marketed to be used with all 3 systems, such alternate playing periods Prequel Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy, or collections of races/ships/droids, regional sourcebooks that fit well with all 3 core games, crossover adventures etc.
