Store Championship, Chantilly, VA. The Lambda Flies Out

By Englishpete, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Well, it was the Store Championship today at Game Parlor in Chantilly Virginia and we had 20 people turn out for it.

I had decided beforehand that I only really wanted the Ten Numb card and I would get that for turning up, so I took a list that I thought would raise some eyebrows.

Omicron Pilot, Advanced Sensors, Gunner, Engine Upgrade (33).

I took three of them.

That's right folks, three shuttles and I was determined to fly them to the max. As you can imagine, people thought I was bonkers.

Game 1 was against Tycho, Biggs and Ibtisam and the very first round of shooting one of my Lambda's took 11 hits and I rolled no evades (that's right he didn't miss with one die.) Down went the first Lambda. I was able to put 4 hits on Biggs and 3 on Tycho, but couldn't get a killing shot on either of them. Another Lambda went down before time was called and I took an opening loss. Things were looking ominous for the 3 Space Bison.

Game 2 saw me facing Krassis Trellix (with obligatory HLC and something else), Turr Phennir with Stealth and Elusiveness and a Sabre with Stealth and Elusiveness. This game went much better with the Space Bison using Adv. Sensors, bumping, full stop moves and 2 hard turns. Turr went down without loss to the Lambda's, then the Firespray followed suit as did a Lambda. I then had a lapse in concentration that saw me put a dial the wrong way on a 2 hard and then have no choice but to fly off the board next turn. Time was called 2 turns later and I had a partial win under my belt. Things were looking up.

Game 3 saw me opposite Howlrunner, 5 Academy Ties and a Buzz Saw shuttle. On the second turn, I was able to take out Howlrunner and a Tie for a few shields as well as having several ties unable to shoot as I rammed them. (gotta love adv.sensors). My opponent had also held his shuttle stationary in turn 1 and then 1 straight in turn 2. Turn 3 saw me get all three shuttles firing on the Buzz Saw and down it went having caused no damage to me. My opponent was now in disarray with his 4 ties having moved them thinking my moves would be totally different.

Over the next several turns I was able to run away and turn back into the fight and again I flew a Lambda of the board by about 2mm on a hard 2. I had killed another tie by this time and two more went down to the remaining Lambda's by the time the round was ended.

A full win to the lambda's. I am now 1 loss, I partial, 1 full. Not what I expected at all.

Game 4 and I see 2 Rookie X-Wings, Roark with Recon Spec and Blaster turret and Dutch with Ion Cannon and R2-D2. My opponent just wasn't ready for the speed and trickiness of the Lambda's and I was getting really rather good at flying them now. I took out the two Rookies and Roark for the loss of 1 Lambda and had Dutch on 1 hull point when time was called.

Another full win. People were not laughing at the Lambda train now.

Overall I came in 6th (If I hadn't flown my Lambda of the board in game 2 I would have made the top 4 cut.)

This configuration of the shuttle was awesome and left my opponents scratching their heads at times on how to counter it. The sheer speed provided by EU, the abilities granted by Adv. Sensors and the reliable damage output from Gunner, as well as having initiative over other PS2 pilots really made this list a force to be reckoned with and surprised a great deal of folks at the tourney.

For all those shuttle die-hards out there, the Lambda can kick ass........

Thx and "Fly Casual"

I'm glad you had fun with the 3 shuttle list. That first round sounds painful. There's only so much you can do when the dice fall like that.

I found I get super cautious near the edge of the board. I've flown off a couple times, but I don't cut it as close as you do.

I've found, every time I run my 3 alabaster star caribou list, people go from derision to terror rather quickly. Usually when you attack and just keep rolling until damage gets through. This is certainly one list I scoff at stealth device with. :)

I ran my own 3 shuttle list on Friday night.

Captain Yorr + FCS + Gunner + Intel Agent + Engine Upgrade

2x OGP + FCS + Gunner + Engine Upgrade

It was against an inexperienced player who had heard about it and wanted to see it. It was... not pretty. He was running XXAA and I tore him apart. I caught him in several traps, where I had anticipated his movements and just shifted my forces to catch him in withering fire. Turn 3, for example, had Tycho caught between two Lambdas at range 1 with both target lock and focus.

Anyway, congrats on getting Ten Numb and I'm glad you had fun. :)

Good job, what really helps set up the shuttle, In all its viable builds, is engine upgrade. Past saying that, I've made people fear the shuttles in my local area. I hope dearly for more shuttle pilots one day and can't wait to see what further upgrades they'll come out with they can take. That is about the most looking forward I do with the game now. Can we say, Shuttle Aces ? You know you'd be in.

My fervent wish is to Barrel Roll a Shuttle.....

If you can barrel roll a shuttle, I'd say your the best pilot in the galaxy. I too wish to see a shuttle that can do that. My kingdom for new shuttle pilots that can take EPTs.

No reason we can't make one up:

What is the race of aliens that looks like hippos? A little synergy there me thinks.

[insert name here]

PS 6

28pts

after you reveal a 0, 1, 2, or 3 straight maneuver, add barrel roll to your action bar until the end of this turn.

And isn't there a rumor that if you win a world championship you get to help design a ship? SableG... your destiny is calling.

Any info on the top list(s)?

My TO will be publishing results soon.

I'm still considering running (4) OGP w/anti-pursuit lasers/fire control at our tournament on 3/29.

I wish you all the luck with that. It'll be a hard fly with Engine Upgrades.
