Making an all Dwarf deck and other questions

By Xannidel, in Strategy and deck-building

So I am basing this PURELY on having the inital core set. I want to make a Dwarf deck and the only Dwarfs available are Gimli, Gloin and Thalin; Is this an okay deck to start out with and if not, what expansions would you recommend I look at. Because my birthday is coming up in a week I can always ask for an expansion set to help compliment my core set.

Now, questions from the core set quests. While doing a solo adventure I kept getting location cards and not enemy cards to attack. So after I draw the single card and add the threat and compare it to the Willpower (or is it Wisdom, I can't recall), and work around that for adjusting my threat tracker/tokens to put on the current quest card/location card, I have noticed that I was constantly pulling up location/treachery cards and no enemy cards to encounter. So does that mean that I skip all the way to the refresh step and go to the next round?

I hope that this is understandable by everyone because I really do not know how else to phrase it haha.

Thanks again!

If you want Dwarves then you have several great options: the Khazad-dum Deluxe expansion and both of the Hobbit saga expansions [Over Hill and Under Hill + On the Doorstep], are full of Dwarf heroes, allies and support cards.

In answer to your rules question: if there are no enemies in play then technically the Encounter and Combat phases still happen, but effectively the likelihood is that you can skip straight through to the refresh phase (unless for some reason you wish to take actions in these phases).

Allright, that does help. It seems that using the core set for an all Dwarf deck is rather difficult, at least if you are trying to do a solo game, due to the low willpower and lack of willpower allies in those two spheres. I will check out the expansions, thank you for the advise.

Over Hill and Under Hill gives you 3 dwarf heroes, 4 awesome dwarf allies and other super useful cards

Khazad Dum gives you 2 OK heroes and a lot of good dwarf events, attachments and 1 or 2 fine allies.

On the Doorstep offers 3 useful heroes, 4 good allies and attachments and events. It has really many dwarf cards but not as strong as in OHaUH.

Return to Mirkwood gives you one superhero for dwarves but that is all.

So, you could buy Khazad Dum and if you have enough, then buy it with Hobbit: Over Hill and Under Hill. These 2 expansions give you 6 quests, 5 dwarf heroes and many many good dwarf oriented cards. That is nice start. :)

2 expansions eh?

Well worth a shot to try. Thank you all for the help.

Buy only 1 if you don't want to spend too much. You will have a lot of fun with only 1 expansion. But 2 will really open your deckbuilding options.

Over Hill and Under Hill might be the one I ask for my birthday and if I need more customization options then I can use some birthday money to get the other expansion.

Haha, nice plan! :)

Good to see new players

One other question I have. Because I am using a tactician(red) and leadership(purple) deck and I understand that to play a leadership card from my hand I can ONLY use resources from any Leadership heroes; but, can I equip leadership attachments to heroes of other spheres of influence? Like can I put a Celebrian's Stone on Gimli? Or are those attachments STRICTLY for heroes/allies of their own sphere?

Yes, you can, unless the attachment itself specify a requirement (e.g. Burning Brand specifies that it can only be attached to a lore hero)
