Wave 4 ships? Episode 7?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

What if the ships in wave 4 are a clue to what we might see in episode 7?

Side note, today is the last day of February and they just updated aces for a March release....just thought that was funny.

Well it had just said "Q1 2014" until now, so not really a change at least.

I expect the new movies will be set a generation after Return of the Jedi and will include mostly vehicles that we've never seen on film before. So no, I don't think Wave 4 represents that.

They can't be set too far after RotJ given that Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford are apparently reprising their roles...

We've never seen any of the vehicles in Wave 4 on film…in fact, the E-wing is a common craft about 20 years after ROTJ

Not a chance. The ships will be completely new and not from the EU.

I imagine we will see old ships 'revisited' too.

Agreed.

Luke/Leia were about....22-23 in RotJ? Assuming life expectancy in the SW universe is the same, it could be 40-50 years in the future....no one said they were taking action packed roles :P they could just be cameos with limited screen time ;)

I would expect their twin children will be the focus. So a Jedi coming of age film. This is saddening speculation, but more than likely pretty close to the mark.

Taking note from some of the comics where look goes to the Dark side for a while would be interesting.

Pretty much any cool spin on what happened after ROTJ has been done and done better than what any team of writers they currently have could probably produce.

Assuming they keep the twins in the picture. Remember anything that wasn't set in stone as the credits rolled on RotJ has a possibility of being retconned by an overzealous Disney :(

According to latest reports, episode 7 is going to feature the original cast more heavily, as a sort of "passing the torch" type of thing before eps. 8&9 focus heavily on the next generation.

What makes you think there are going to BE twins? This is exactly the area where Disneuy changing the continuity is going to have the biggest impact. For all we know, the Empire is still going strong 30 years later and the rebellion is back to being a rag-tag group on the verge of extinction, with no hint of anything resembling the New Republic.

I would guess that the original cast will have some kind of desk job position and act as mentors....still could be them in geriatric land :P

I agree completely. These writers are probably related to the awful writers of the CGI Clone Wars show (who are now going to completely destroy the time period between Ep III—IV as well).

As proof of how bad the writers are, take a look at what they renamed Korriban (for those who don't know, that's the homeworld go the Sith). Yup, you guessed it—Moraband. It seriously sounds like they kept creating words that rhymed with Korriban and chose the dumbest one they could find. I will definitely watch the new movies, but I get a feeling that MY Stat Wars will still be the pre-Disney version.

Why did they change it? Was there some kind of licensing issue?

EDIT:

Umm, according to wookieepedia, moraband was just one of their homeworlds:

"Moraband was a homeworld of the Sith . Jedi Master Yoda visited the planet during the Clone Wars . "

Korriban was just the ORIGINAL homeworld. The Sith have had to move around alot...

"Korriban , known as Pesegam during the reign of Xim [2] , was the sole planet in the Horuset system , located across the galaxy from Koros Major [7] . It was the original homeworld of the Sith species and a sacred planet for the Sith Order , housing the tombs for many ancient and powerful Dark Lords of the Sith , and containing immense dark side power."

We will see how they attempt to explain all of this...still, think of a more imaginative name at least.

The Empire was around and known as "The Remnant" for the most part. The Empire still had a decent amount of planets and territory under their control. The concentrated forces, no longer having to keep an entire galaxy tamed was to their advantage, until Thrawn came back to almost destroy the Republic. Even after his death the Empire was still around and I believe when aliens from outside the Galaxy attempted invasion and started thrasing everyone, Republic and Imperial forces stopped fighting and sort of joined forces. I don't really like the Vong, but I think weird lizard aliens with Bioships is still something better than what DIsney can produce.

Either it'll have something to do with their kids or a group of Sith coming back from Rim worlds on some stupid mission, leading Imperial forces against the Rebels. It woudl have a hint of the good literature already available, but changed enough to save them from court settlements or paying anyone off.

Although there are already stories of Luke seeking out students and getting some Jedi schools up and running, it would be the logical progression of the story. It's what he would do right after Endor. They could forego the boring process of him actually doing that and simply have him with a few schools up and running from the start of Episode 7.

Corcuscant being blown to hell with prolonged ground warfare like in Dark Empire would also be acceptable.

Basically I view Disney getting their hands on it as if Disney produced the Lord of the Rings movies. With dread.

You guys do realize that most people that are actually writing and directing these things are probably at least some measure of star wars fanboy right? They are probably going to kep the canon as intact as they can minus executive meddling (which is always a problem for every piece of media) and things that they personally didn't like. I haven't been following closely but I trust that it will at least keep to the broad strokes of the EU if not the nuts and bolts.

I mean it's theoretically possible that every member of the creative team just signed on because it's a big name franchiese and they'll get paid a lot, but I'm sure t least one Bothon died infiltrating them...

Well Clonewars had a variant Headhunter but beyond that no. Given how long it's been since RotJ was filmed though I would at least guess the next movies to be 20-30 years afterward if the original cast is involved in any meaningful way. Even if they aren't I would almost still be surprised if some of these ships didn't at least get some minor mention (plus Rebels seems like a good spot to show Z-95's).

I normally would agree here, but the current thought is Disney is no fan of EU story lines.. so those fan boys may have to come up with their own material..

CGi altering the faces of actors is pretty amazing at the moment. Ford doesn't look exceptionally old and with makeupor CGI they could make him look mid 40's or 50. Carrie Fisher, that may be a tougher sell, so perhaps leaving them their real world age would be better.

The best that I can hope for is that, while Disney and Abrams may toss the broad strokes of the (post Jedi) EU out entirely, the production designers and guys who actually do the work will find ways to slip some of the old characters and tech back in.

if the mess with any of the EU I will be pissed and probably not watch.

if they were smart they hired Timothy Zahn to right the script

Thrawn Trilogy would be the best choice to adapt a script from.

I imagine negotiations would take a long while. Hell, the script is probably done and been done for a while if they are already casting.

DOOM DOOM DOOMM DOOOM

I'm sure the Rebels will be up agaist a 3rd Death Star. 3 times as large, but 1/3 complete.

Timothy Zahn is not a scriptwriter.

The Thrawn Trilogy is good, no doubt. I don't think it works as a movie trilogy, especially since you would have to recast the main characters, which is a horrible idea. I like the idea of a send off film.
