What are the specific benefits of Bipod/Tripods? The book says that they help with increasing accuracy, but it doesn't list anything at all; merely limitations in aiming; 90 degrees for Bipods, and 180 degrees for Tripods.

The Sniper Rifle is listed as coming with a Bipod or Tripod, but it is never mentioned anywhere that a sniper rifle, not being a heavy weapon, requires bracing.

Personally, I have the feeling that there should be a general Combat Action for Bracing, not just specifically for Heavy Weapons.

Why on Terra would anyone, mechanics-wise, brace with their Sniper Rifle, using it's Bipod or Tripod. Or why would anyone get the Weapon Upgrade and attach it to their weapon; afaik, all heavy weapons that would arguably *need* a Tripod already comes with one.

What gives? Suggestions?

I'd say they give you a necessary surface for Bracing. Which one then determines how far it can turn before you have to rebrace. Your Heavy Bolter or Autocannon are sort of useless otherwise, unless you SOMEHOW get a suspensor.

They could have written down something like Bipod giving basic weapons +X to ballistic skill or maybe reducing the range penalties a bit or something. Those would have made it useful for rifles.

Not that I know.

Well, we know that bracing a weapon helps with accuracy mechanically and (most of the time) in reality. I can't see a mechanical reason to brace a sniper rifle unless they'll give you a +5% BS. There are plently of ways to brace without a bipod or tripod anyway.

Though i'd say that if you're laying down with nothing useable in front of you, it would be impossible to brace your weapon without one.

They do. In the description of bipods and tripods it mentions that unless you have a conveniently placed sandbag or windowsill or something you must have bipod or a tripod in order to be able to brace heavy weapons. (Though some talents let you do it anyway.)

Apologies. Maybe they did forget to write something, but my quick peeks through the RT, DW, and BC core books doesn't even show a bipod/tripod, so they didn't forget to copy/paste from those. I'd guess it's to "give you a convenient surface", as said. I personally don't see a sniper, stretched out on the ground, hidden in the weeds by his gilly suit, waiting hours for that one shot, without a tripod under the sniper rifle. Granted, the iconic Vindicare mini, nor the Cadian Snipers minis have one, so maybe 40K lore doesn't think they are important for non-Heavy weapons, rules-wise.

Can you point me at this section. I'm about to play a heavy weapon operator in my current game and I don't remember seeing this anywhere. It'd be really great if its true so I don't have to beg for one.

You'll have to read the various weapon descriptions, it's not a blanket rule or something visible in the statlines. Some heavy weapons (like the standard missile launcher) are shoulder-mounted, while others require tripods, etc. All I said is that, as far as I know , all heavy weapons that arguably *needs* a tripod does come with one.
