possible regionals list and a request for advice

By DSOAgent, in X-Wing

Having some experience with tournaments im looking at going to the regionals in Calgary. The list im thinking of running (and going to be using constantly untill the event) is this

Han solo (46 points)

-Marksmanship (3 points)

-Gunner (5 points)

-Mercenary copilot (2 points)

Green Squadron Pilot (19 points)

-Push the Limit (3 points)

Green Squadron Pilot (19 points)

-Push the Limit (3 points)

The thought is i let Han fly around and do his thing and use the A-wings to flank and attempt to pull some heat off of Han.

What i would like is for anyone to let me anything i could/should change with this list. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

If you like the Greens all well and good, however, you could consider 2 naked Blue Squadron Pilots for the same points. That list packs some serious firepower and survivability.

Replace the A-wings with a different fighter. Han provides a very reliable attack with Marksmanship and Gunner, but it's still just one attack. The A-wings are very maneuverable, but their bottom line is that their damage output is lower than any other Rebel fighter (including the Y-wing and HWK, once you add a turret).

And in addition to being your main offensive threat, Han is a relatively weak ship defensively. He's easy to hit, and 13 hp is a lot but with 1 Agility they'll go faster than you expect, particularly against lists with 5-7 ships. So you have to seriously consider what your list looks like once Han is destroyed, and again, I just don't know if the Greens are going to cut it.

So you're currently spending 46 points on the Mercenary Copilot and the two PTL Greens. You could spend those points on two Blue Squadron Pilots, two Rookie Pilots, two Gold Squadron Pilots with Ion Cannon Turrets, two HWKs with Recon Specialists and Blaster Turrets, etc. You could also make them non-identical, if that doesn't make your OCD twinge (the way it does for me…) A Prototype Pilot gives you most of the functionality of a Green Squadron Pilot, makes for a better blocker, and leaves you 29 points for another fighter with some upgrades.

Rookie Pilots are sort of traditional for Han Shot First lists, but virtually any choice will likely give you better overall success than relying on A-wings for firepower.

I have faced the B-Wing list I suggested and it is devastating, I lost to it in the final of a 18 person tourney. I had gone 4 games with full wipe wins with my list and the guy running the Han list had done the same.

I fought him down to 1 badly damaged B-Wing but there was just to much damage being sent my way and to many hull and shields to chew through on his side.

I saw some of his games and he decimated his opponents lists through sheer attrition.

I think you can safely drop the gunner in order to shore up your red dice and deal some hurt across more than one attack. Perhaps try something like this

Han is awesome but instead of adding offensive upgrades try going deffense. My Han squad crew is navigator instead of merc co and VI instead of Marksmanship for the EPT slot, allowing him to either outmaneuver top pilots (Wedge,Soontir) or bump into Krassis+HLC and deny being shoot at.

I can't agree more with what has been said above as sadly As can't deliver enough damage to defeat 4 rebel builds that include Biggs. In my local meta is Biggs+Wedge (Swarm T)+ Blues (x2)...

Id take the Luke Skywalker crew upgrade instead of Marksmanship + Gunner, 7pts vs 8pts for a similar effect. I would then put on Expert Handling to make Han more survivable, which will synergize more with the A wings Though you'll have to drop Merc copilot...

With Expert handling, I would definitely stick with the A Wings! There's no point in barrel rolling Han if they can just shoot at your support! A wings will be dodging arcs and turtling with PTL.

With the A wings, your squad WILL be a bit weaker damage wise, so keeping all your ships alive is key to winning. If you take out 3 ties, but lose nothing thanks to arc dodging, etc, that will be a match win. Fire power is important, but NOT losing ships is also important.

Overall, I like the idea of the squad.

Thanks everyone on the advice. I think i will try and use the 2 blues next time im out playing a game.

The list i used the other day was

Wedge

-push the limit

-R2 astro

-shield upgrade

Garven

-shield

Biggs

-r2-f2

-shield

I found that i had a slight problem with multiple high PS enemy ships so i started looking at Luke skywalker with squad leader and R2-D2.

So pulling away from the falcon and the 3 ship builds i started looking at

Garven

"Dutch"

-ion turret

2xRed squadron pilots

I ran this a couple of times and found it very affecfive. Thoughts?

A very strong list. Garven + Dutch is hugely synergistic, and having 2 more X-Wings is always a nice addition to a list.

If you like the Greens all well and good, however, you could consider 2 naked Blue Squadron Pilots for the same points. That list packs some serious firepower and survivability.

The A-wings with PTL have better survivability than B-wing. Taking damage is option when you have an evade and 3 defense dice. With a Bwing sure, u have fat but believe me your going to get shot to pieces fast.
