Thoughts on the C-3PO and R2 crew cards

By Lumberjack Nick, in X-Wing

Well, after a lot of speculation and custom cards (a few of mine own included), we have the official 3PO and R2 crew cards.

3PO's is......interesting.

And R2's is.......well, sort of insane. The Falcon builds are looking pretty unbelievable at this point. Over powered maybe?

At any rate, just wanted to see what the thoughts were.

Meh.

That is all.

3PO is good. R2, is really difficult to judge. Will 1 shield offset the dangers of suffering more crit effects?

Never mind.

I think 3PO is very good with Falcon (or any high hp 1 agility ship). Just guessing zero nearly equates to an hp 63% each turn. So unless opponent takes it out in two rounds (with 2 guaranteed evades and Chewbacca crew that's not likely) it's average worth is equal to or more than Chewbacca for 1 less point!

In the release about the Corellian Corvette.

R2D2 crewman is interesting because if you can avoid hull damage (picking up cards) while still seeing the shields shot away you will get the shield boost without worrying about turning up cards.

Regardless, combined with the falcon title, that can guarantee the first attack each turn has 2 hits cancelled

Guessing zero completely guarantees an evade result each attack, doesn't it? If you don't roll an evade threepio gives you one, if you do then you just rolled one. I'm uncertain how he works with a focus icon though, can you have threepio trigger first, giving you a free evade result, and then spend a focus token to turn an eye on the die to a second one?

yes its the unmodified dice you you count. I love the text I see him standing next to han solo trying to tell him the odds. very very awesome

While it is rather cool it seems that C-3PO is sorta useless on the Tantive IV unless its being shot at from range 3. That said however, it is just amazing for the Falcon as many have already stated. As for R2 well I don't know I guess we will find out just how useful he is after playing a few games with the new huge ships.

Threepio on the Falcon is money, especially if you consider using him with the Falcon title. You are looking then at minimum 2 evades per turn and you may get 3.

Apply Chewie as well and the Falcon is a huge tank.

3PO on an YT-1300 with Millennium Falcon Title is difficult to hit.

Guess you'll roll zero and if yuo also spend the Evade token you will always end up with two Evade results.

Yes both 3PO and the Evade token are only good for one attack per turn but still awesome.

You are guaranteed to stop 2 hits per turn, that is a huge advantage.

You declare to use C-3PO after seeing the number of hit/crit results the attacker got. Therefore an evade result from C-3PO will prevent damage.

I wonder what crews do. There might be a damage repair crew which combines well with R2-D2. That's probably wishful thinking, though.

This, my god auto -2 damage a turn pretty nuts if you ask me.

The R2D2 crew, I dunno...suffering an effect of a crit, maybe on a cheap falcon were skills and upgrades do not really matter?

You don't suffer a crit if you have no damage cards!

I really would pair C-3PO up with Chewie and Falcon card, probably with PtL. You are voiding 2 hits per turn, then you have Chewie for that crit you want to avoid and adding a shield back for 2 more hits avoided.

If you really want to get into super tanking at the cost of some firepower, use Determination on Han for fully negating any pilot crits.

Han Solo (46), Determination (1), Chewbacca (4), C-3PO (3), Millennium Falcon (1) (55)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

or other support as you see fit.

I don't understand your logic on this - if I am defending with the tantive with C-3PO and I am rolling 0 dice... I will guess 0 evade results... You'll get it right very time ;) lol.

If you roll no dice, C-3PO does not trigger.

C-3PO on the falcon is so overpowered... it makes me wonder what we HAVEN'T seen yet - like how are they going to balance the equation for Imperials. Could there be something that synnergizes really well with the Slave 1?

Yep, the card says "when you roll 1 or more defense dice..." so you have to roll at least 1 die to use C-3P0

I can't wait to try a super tanky 3PO falcon with 3 Z-95s for support. More ships, more HP than HSF with 2 Rooks and the potential to add in missiles or other goodies on top of it all.

Can. Not. Wait.

I'd like to see that build against a Tie Swarm... Finally the Falcon won't seem like a sitting duck...

There could be a 3-point crew card that gives the Firespray an extra focus token when it takes the focus action. ;)

RULE QUESTION

Can you put Chewbacca crew on Chewbacca falcon?

RULE ANSWER.

Nope :-)
