Having a fiddle

By mikeyboy403, in X-Wing

Having a bit of a tweak with a list I used in a store comp a few weeks ago.

Dagger+advanced sensors 27

Roark + ion turret 24

Red wing +r2 unit ×2 48

Out of 12 players, I came in 4th which wasn't bad for my first comp.

Any how, i'm trying to tweak the list a little.

Dagger+advice sensors 27

Roark + ion turret 24

Biggs+ R2D2 29

Green sqn + vet instincts 20

Any advice welcome.

I'm guessing you like Roark for letting you shoot first but if you don't usually get a kill with that attack and weather the first attack well I wonder if you wouldn't be better with a Y-Wing carrying the Ion Turret. I wonder about an ABXY squad using the second level pilots and AS on the B while giving the Green PtL; this leaves 3 points for other things or to upgrade to a named pilot.

Looking at your second version I'm thinking Biggs will die too easily and that you could easily overextend your A-Wing which has already cost you damage output over the original. What were the problems you faced with the first squad that you are trying to correct? If you're going to add the A-Wing I'd have added a Green with PtL; that may mean no R2D2 but I'm afraid Biggs wouldn't get much use from the droid before getting destroyed.

I do like roark, as his ability is very useful, cheap and it threw the other players off slightly as I managed to use his ability every turn on a different ship.

What I would like would be to give the b a hlc and have 2 x wings or 2 a wings as the offensive. I like the maneuver bility of the a but the survivability of the X

Roark + Ion Turret (we want him to be useful for something) and a Blue + HLC is going to run you half of your squad at 53 points. I guess you could try something like this but I don't see a lot of synergy between the ships.

Roark + Ion Turret (24)

Dagger Squadron Pilot + HLC (31)

Red Squadron Pilot (23)

Green Squadron Pilot + PtL (22)

I guess the thing here is you're actually putting a number of points into PS which may, or may not, do you any good. Roark lets somebody shoot first if you are running against high PS ships but after that you're still shooting after most of them while shooting before the lowest PS ships. Cutting down the Dagger and Red get you four more points to play with which gives you options but which of those is best I don't know.

This. I prefer Roark with PS2/PS1 ships, so his ability is more efficient. Saving 6 points on PS lets you go with something like:

99 points

Roark + Ion (24)

Blue + Advanced Sensors x3 (25x3)

Or

99 points

Roark + Ion (24)

Blue + Advanced Sensors x2 (25x2)

Biggs

I'm almost always a fan of Biggs, especially if you have plenty of 3 attack ships. You obviously have to keep him in the back to force your enemy to make long range shots. The B-wings with sensors can focus and ram into things, and likely get plenty of range 1 shots.
This list is actually very analogous to Paul Heaver's winning list:
Biggs
Dagger + Advanced Sensors x2
Rookie
Your firing order is slightly better at 12/5/4/2 vs 5/4/4/2. In theory, I like this list as it has two 3 attack ships firing before PS4. It also makes target priority very difficult for your opponent. The problem is that your PS4 "only" has an Ion Turret, so you have to fly smart, but if you can keep one ship per turn out of action every round, that can be a huge advantage, especially against a 4-ship Rebel list.

I like your original list. If I added it right it is 99 points. I would drop one or both of the R2's, and give roark blaster turret and recon specialist instead of the ion turret.

Otherwise if you want to do the HLC, I would drop both R2's, adv sensors, and make dagger a blue. He'll be moving early so he shouldn't need to worry about losing actions from crashing. And with Roark around he'll get his hlc shot in before being shot at.

Thanks for everyone's help so far. So I have the store comp this weekend and I'm looking at 4 possible builds.

Bluey green Garnet =99

Roark + ion turret 24

Blue + hlc + fcs 31

Green + ptl ×2 44

Green Dagger 100

Dagger + advanced sensors 27

Roark + blaster + recon + mc 29

Green + ptl ×2 44

Red Dagger 99

Roark + ion turret =24

Dagger + advanced sensors = 27

Red sqn + R2 ×2=48

Red blue garnet 99

Roark + ion turret 24

Blue + hlc 29

Red × 2 46

Has anyone had any success or failures with any of the builds? Or are there any mega flaws?

I'm wanting to keep a 4 ship build

I'm gonna have to say Red Dagger is my favorite, because B-Wings + Advanced Sensors is amaze-balls.

I would fly 2 b-wing with advanced sensors but I only have the one shuttle and don't really want to pay that kind of money for the one card.
