Core, TIE/Adv, and Y-Wing all at once. From there it was TIE/LN and X-Wing at the same time, A-Wing and YT-1300...
Honestly can't remember the order I got the ships in.
My best guess is Core+Y+Adv, then A, then X and TIE/LN, finally YT-1300.

I got three core sets, two TIEs, four TIE Advanced, four Y-Wings and two X-Wings simultaneously.
a second core set and a TIE advanced, Squint, X-wing and Y wing
Well...nothing. I actually bought the Core set last. Will buy more in the future, though.
I got my core set for Christmas. After playing a few games, picked up two more at Target 2 days later, on sale for $20.
Only kept one of them, but a few days later, got my first two expansions: Tie Advanced and an A-Wing.
Probably not the best ships to buy at that moment, but I wanted Darth Vader, and my wife liked the A-Wing.
I got an A-wing and an Interceptor at the same time as my first core set
I had played a few games with a store copy in the months leading up to my first core set, so I bought an X-Wing and a Y-Wing to go with it. I started reading the forums here, and decided I wanted to go all in so I went back out and got another core set and another X- and Y-Wing. After that I started beefing up the Imperial side, but I honestly don't remember exactly what came when.
I had seen the game on Tabletop, and so I bought exactly what they had there. 1 Core set, Falcon, and Slave. Shortly thereafter my next purchase was 2 B-Wings, TIE Advanced, and TIE Bomber all at once.
1 TIE Advanced, 1 Y-Wing, 1 X-Wing expansion, 1 TIE Expansion. There was no Wave 2 yet.
Edited by HexisThe question at hand is " What did you get after YOUR first core set?"

Worst part about this statement...
I first saw this game at a Hastings about a year ago. I saw a Millennium Falcon and a core set and thought, "Hmmm... Cool models... But way too expensive for me..."
And here I am now. Everything I buy anymore, from fast food to my cell phone bill, I can't help but think. "Hmmm... I could buy (insert random ship here) instead!!"
I picked up X-wing at my FLGS (actually the only time I've ever been there). I was walking about in a daze after a standardized test and kind of wandered inside. I played a game there, and bought a core set. Got together with some friends and played for a couple of hours and just had a blast. So then I hopped online and ordered one of everything else available, a Y, an Advanced, and the stand alone X and TIE blisters. It was easier to get started up back then. I can't imagine coming into the game now with all the stuff that is available right away. I've been able to slowly build up my collection.
