Help making custom pilot cards

By Rhinoviru3, in X-Wing

I wasn't sure about adding a crew slot for the ARC-170, as the pilot and 2 gunners are pretty much standard and mandatory. It seems to me that many of the available crew cards aren't appropriate to the fluff. However I generally feel that more options is better. I dropped the base points by 2 to reflect the drop in agility, as going from 2 to 1 is a huge drop in survivability.

Cut and pasted. Thanks! You just made me place a Shapeways order.

You think you might make imp versions?

I certainly could. However, these weren't really meant to be rebel ships anyways (at least originally). These were just really going to be placeholders until I could figure out how to make the iconography for the Republic. Unfortunately the Gimp doesn't seem to be able to open the .jp2 files that are in Hinny's plugin, so I need to figure something else out. I think that making them as leftover ships flown by rebels and imperials (with different pilots for each) would be fun too.

Note that Jai'galaar and Davijaan are clones who I don't think survived into the Empire era. Would you like me to just switch the same cards into the Imperial card template? Alternatively I could make some different pilots to represent them being flown by actual Imperial pilots.

I am also going to take a shot at making some Eta-2 Actis Interceptors sometime later today:

Remember that for older generation ships, their stats and abilities would generally have to be outclassed by the current era Imperial and Rebel ships.

...Or not. What do you guys think?

I really don't think the current era ships should be any better than the Clone Wars vintage ships. The Republic was around for twenty-five thousand years, and we're talking about twenty? There may not be many left due to wear and fatigue, but the stats shouldn't be significantly worse from a technological standpoint.

I tend to agree. I see changes in ship design throughout the clone and civil war eras more as reflecting changes in how wars were being fought, rather than major technological improvements. Changes in the meta of warfare, if you will.

You can do whatever. I'm enjoying your work.

I also considered buy one of those clone war ships that has three wings, one in the center on the bottom. I forget what it's called.

why does the first named ARC pilot have the same pilot ability as Backstabber?

It sounds like you're thinking of the V-19 Torrent:

That's another one I am thinking of making some cards for. I'll throw up some Imperial ARC-170s first though.

Thanks for the compliment, but remember that Hinnyboy deserves the most credit for actually creating the plugin for Strange Eons, I'm just using what he built. Also, I guess the development team behind Strange Eons deserves tons of credit particularly because they have made it free to use!

Engine25, I'm aware he does, and I chose it because of:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/CT-55/11-9009

There's really not much else to go on when it come to Republic ARC-170 pilots.

However, I'd be happy for some help coming up with something original!

Torrent, that's the one.

So you guys want Republic card layouts?

I could give it a shot. Was planning to make some stylized like the Venator class destroyers.

Yes, Chris Jennings has made a tremendous work with Strange Eons! He also happens to be a great guy and very helpful to me answering all my questions I had when creating the plug-in.

Yes please!

For now here's an Imperial aligned ARC-170.

Vagrant, Republic card layouts would be AWESOME!

I will post more cards as I make them:

No worries, was just curious. Not sure if you're interested in input, but played some social games with different card abilities. One time, a buddy played a "Backstabber-style" X-wing whose ability was:

When attacking with a primary weapon from outside the defender's firing arc, you may reroll 2 attack dice.

Anyway great work on the look of the cards! And I like the defensive support from the PS8 ARC 170 card.

Speaking of SA, I'm looking for a ship for a special ability.

"After successfully evading an attack, you may perform a free barrel roll action."

It might be very powerful on a low PS.

I'm certainly interested in input! I will look at changing that one, as it feels a little too powerful to me anyway given the rear fire arc. The rerolling dice as opposed to adding one might tone down the power a bit without losing the spirit of it.

Viceroy, I'm not sure what you mean by your post here. Would you like me to make a ship with that rule? If so, which ship, and for which faction?

I was just sharing. I don't know which ship it would go well on. It should be something with high agility. A-wing? It was off topic. I brought it up because there seemed to be a lot of solid thinkers in the conversation. Sorry.

Since you guys were already talking about Clone Wars Era ships, why not one of those? Makes sense for a small, agile ship IMO.

V-Wing? (pre-TIE Fighter from Ep 3)

Delta-7 Aethersprite? (Ep 2 Jedi Starfighter)

Eta 2 Actis (Ep 3 Jedi Starfighter)

Not up on my I-III cannon. Were the Eta 2 Actis exclusively jedi ships?

If not, that or the V-wing would be cool. Wookie says that V-wings had bombs.

Any of the clone war era ships would also be useful for third faction, delinquents.

the possibilities cant wait to see more !!

good job so far guys thats what iam talking about !!

bring some clone wars fighters into this galactic war era there are several other fighters that were alligned to bounty hunter, pirates, planetary defense forces like naboo fighters, even some separatist fighters in the new jedi order that expanded the universe even more jsut sayin cant wait for the stuff that can come towards us from fantasy flight games !!

we need more factions !!!

for scenarios !!!

For campaigns !!!

for more variaty !!!

More fun and for the collecters !!!

for the Painters !!!

FOR ALL !!!

Another Imperial ARC-170 pilot card:

Going slow because I actually need to take breaks to work on essays once in a while. :P ...

:(

Edit: Noticed a typo on the card.

Just a few possible suggestions for the ARC:

Thus far, all 1 AG ships have had at least 8 total HP. Maybe bump the shields up by one??

For the rear firing arc, maybe limit it to 2 dice @ Range 1—2.

Perhaps Jai'galaar could lose the EPT and instead have the new card text: When attacking from outside the defenders firing arc, deal 1 face-up damage to the defender for each uncancelled critical hit.

I like the 1 agility and hp. Heavy fighter, early design, not as good as later development.

I'd suggest reducing the ARC-170's Attack value to "2" (as it only has 2 Laser Cannons front and rear) but give it a front and rear arc. Also, it needs to be able to carry torps. Maneuver dial. I'd go with the Y-wing dial (as the ship is heavy and not very maneuverable) but consider making the speed 4 straight a White maneuver (rather than a Red). A Crew slot is also not a bad idea (I interpret the Crew card to be the presence of extraordinary crew members, not just ordinary crew). So, the following stats:

PS: ? AT: 2 (f/r) EV: 1 HU: 5 SH: 3 Focus, Target Lock

Torpedo, Crew, (EPT*), Modification

Maneuver dial: Y-wing (but 4 straight = White)

Cost: Y-wing(+1) + Upgrades

Chris

I would maybe give it the TIE Bomber dial, it seems to fit to me.
