Tie phantom speculation

Tie Phantom.

Of the 4 new ships in wave 4 I dig the design and concept of Tie-Phantom most... This model/ship do not have its own topic which is a disaster in my view:

A two seated small hardhitting fighter with Cloaking device and system device....seems nice

Which brings some questions:

What is Cloaking?

Perhaps it is unable to be fired upon a range 3?

Perhaps it is allowed to move again in the combatphase...but only green moves?

What is the price for the pl 3(Sigma squadron?)? 25 or 28 points?

Will any of the shipmods be selfdestruction.. something like when destructed it works like a bomb and everthing within range one will recive one damage?

And totally of topic with cloaking introduced will we se Rogue shadow?

Let the speculation begin

Naaaah.

I like the Scum and Villainy speculation about the cloak, that it swaps red dice and green dice.. sounds like a good mechanic to me and it would work nicely. Having 4 natural defense dice is quite a lot, plus a potential additional evade.. if it is that it would be a clever way of doing the cloak.

Seems that at least one modification in the TIE Phantom expansion box is usable by other ships, and being a modification related to cloaking devices, it wouldn't be crazy to assume the appearance of future ships which possess the ability to cloak too.

We have very few clues to start a speculation... But cloaking systems, in general, render ships invisible to sensors, and if advanced enough, to the naked eye too.

FFG will no doubtely try to keep the 'spirit' of that invisibilty for the phantom. But for obvious balance reasons, that invisibility will adopt a 'playable' form.

Cloaking and decloaking have their own rules card each, so we can also assume that, at least, it will be a moderately complex process and not just a simple '+3 evade dice when cloaked'.

Maybe while cloaked, all defense dice results are changed to 'evade' automatically, and your attacker cannot spend any kind of tokens to activate or modify its attack, amongst other things.

Having a 'systems' slot, I'm sure that the 'sensor jammer' upgrade will combo nicely with the phantom abilities...

Actually, if I remember right about how invisibility worked in the game, they actually can simulate it very well. If I remember right there was enough of a sensor reading to make it so you could know roughly where the ships were, but you couldn't get a lock on them or shoot at them. Seems like that could work well in game. You can see the ship, but not target or shoot it.

Anybody else wanting a transparent plastic model for when the Phantom is cloaked?

Suppose you could always buy a spare and repaint it black.

Does anyone know how cloaking works in star trek attack wing? I know its a different game so it will be a different mechanic but that could atleast give us some basis for where to start speculating.

My person thoughts though is that it reduces the amount of attack dice for both the cloaked ship and ships attacking it.

I doubt it is that simple, as Jehan mentioned, there are two rules cards related to the feature.

There is some merit to this idea. I squinted real hard at the Cloak rule card and it looks like there are Evade icons on the card.

Nah, just take the ship off the peg

I don't think it will be a simple red/green swap. Too many interactions with stealth/range/wedge/etc. I've also heard "doubling" from attack wing, and just a straight up "can't be shot at range 2-3 or TL'd".

Looks like a fair amount of card text so I'm guessing it will be a little more complex.

Cloaking in Attack Wing not only gives a number of extra defense dice, but also allows an action that is the equivalent to a speed 1 or 2 barrel roll. Your cloak holds until you fire.

Order one of Gosric's 3D printed versions from Shapeways. If you go with one of the Transparent Detail materials, that could work for a cloaked ship.

What is attracting the attention of tie phantom is:

He has included a pair of target lock. Since it does not have this action in your action bar.

It can take modifications (Targetting computer) or System Upgrades (FCS). Thus the TLs are included.

Well…it doesn't matter if it can take a mod, cause the mod doesn't come with it. FCS does however.

The mod it does come with seems to be named "Stygium Particle Accelerator" which brings some interesting speculation, cause it'll have to be different from engine upgrade, but what can it be?

I don't think it would be a swap, but I think we might see something like a +2 evade, -2 attack while cloaked. Probably with some other side effects to the both attacker and defender. It will definitely interesting once we know though.
