Scum and Villainy X-Wing Podcast Episode #2

By Kelvan, in X-Wing

You guys did a great job with the podcast, I just started playing xwing Jan and there was not much in the way of podcasts so you guys have been a blessing. I am super green so I hope am not asking to many silly things.

Wow this got quickly away from the list ideas for the next show.

Hey one last thing sorry for the spam. What are the thoughts on Turr I have not see a lot of people list interceptors let alone use this guy? Is he worth the points or a waste?

It happens, these things often take on a life of there own.

Turr is an amazing Pilot, and one of the most fun to fly. Being able to move after an attack is fantastic. I don't think he's a waste of points, but you have to use him wisely or he'll feel like a wast of points.

Wow this got quickly away from the list ideas for the next show.

Jax - PTL, Stealth (32)

Turr- PTL, Stealth (31)

Ap (12)

Or

Death Cow, Darth Vader (24)

2 - RG (44)

Space Cow, (gunner, fcs, engi) (32)

Edited by Cubanboy

Can I ask about the shuttles if you ran would this be a good idea,

Omicron HLC, Reb Cap, Senors, engi (38)

Turr Per PTL, Shield (32)

Howl Runner (18)

Ap (12)

I really wanted to try to work Turr Phen with a shuttle or is this too crazy?

Having 5 ties is stupid fun though.

Of course I go another direction...

Turr w/ PTL

Omicron w/ engine, hlc, sensors

3x academies

Keen to listen to this one. Few things guys:

I can't download the episode at the moment. There seems to be a limitation of downloads on Google drive.

It would be great to have this podcast on a feed so podcast apps can catch it and download new episodes as they come.

Note that there is a "Scum and villainy radio" Star Wars podcast out in the world. Maybe a more X-wing related title would make easier to find it for people searching podcasts.

Sure you'll get there. Great work otherwise.

We're working on this... but IT Greg moves slowly.

As for Imperial Aces lists, here's one I've been tinkering with. I'm still not quite happy with it:

Captain Kagi (27)
Sensor Jammer (4)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Carnor Jax (26)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)

Omicron Group Pilot (21)
Fire-Control System (2)
Gunner (5)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

Here's how it works. Kagi should stay at Range 3 or out of arc. His actions should be offensive in nature (Focus and Target Lock). He's got a high PS (same as Carnor), so he'll be able to boost in the most effective manner. He acts as a target lock sponge, but the target they want to kill is Carnor.

Jax should rapidly seek to get behind the enemy and hound them from behind. Using boost and barrel roll to stay in range 1 but out of arc, he should deliver withering fire but should spend his actions mostly Focus + Evade to increase survivability.

The final shuttle should go unnoticed and attempt a rapid flank of the enemy while they are focused on Jax and Kagi. Get into range 3 from the side or rear and then slow down and just begin delivering punishment.

The loss of Jax will hurt this list, but is survivable. Kagi is able to boost later in the turn, though he doesn't have advanced sensors. While Jax is alive, any attacks on Kagi should basically be considered and immediate loss of a hit (since they can't reroll the hit changed to a focus and Jax should prevent them from focusing). Meanwhile, if flown correctly, Jax should be able to get behind the enemy and live there, restricting their offensive and defensive capabilities.

The danger to this list will be the YT-1300. The other turret weapons are less threatening. Ion turrets can attack him, but range 1 blaster turrets are useless since they can't spend that focus token to attack. Late turn boost and barrel roll mean that Jax can easily arc dance for other ships.

please put a link to the feed somewhere on you site so I can load it in my podcast catcher. really irritating to try and subscribe and not be able too.

That's the spirit. Complain about an awesome thing somebody spent hours on and then gave to you for free because it isn't quite awesome enough.

They are working on it. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. Just appreciate that it exists at all and quit looking a gift horse in the mouth.

If I have to fight to be able to listen to it on anything other than my computer it is not a podcast. If I don't complain it wont get fixed. It is a minor thing. But with out it it becomes a major pain in the ass to listen to it anywhere but my computer.

I can't download it right now. Says you are over your limit.

There are always nice people who do good things on the Internet only to get mistreated by people who can't appreciate the great thing they just got, even if there are some hiccups. All these people often ask for is some appreciation, but unfortunately they also get rudeness. This, I think, is truly a shame. This show is so fantastic that I can handle some inconvenience and be thankful for what I can get however I can get it.

I didn't figure you'd budge though. This is the Internet of course. And since we've established that, I don't think I'll need to be saying anything more. You can't win an argument on the Internet after all.

Fly casual man.

Love the podcast. We have had a serious drought in X-Wing podcasting. You guys are a welcome rain!

I have 2 lists for after Aces comes out.

Lucky Number Sixes ...

2x Royal Guard w/ Push the Limit (50pts)

Dark Curse (16pts)

Backstabber (16pts)

Howlrunner (18pts)

(100pts)

Prefer loosing initiative as it can allow higher PS to roll out of arcs. Howlrunner buffing PS 6 means she should get at least a round of benefit if she dies immediately.

Pump You Up Academy ...

4x Academy Pilots (48pts)

Howlrunner (18pts)

Carnor Jax w/Push the Limit & Shield (33pts)

(99pts)

With the APs, initiative bid is desired. I've even considered downgrading shield to Stealth to guarantee initiative. Howlrunner's buffing, and Jax's debuffing sounds fantastic in a swarm (even if only 6 ships).

My general leaning is that dropping jammers may be a GOOD thing. You are giving up potential guaranteed misses, but it makes Kagi more of an "easy" target and that might give Carnor a bit of relief. Fill up the rest of the squad with Academies.

But in the end, just 3 Academies might be too weak in this squad against the PS4 meta, so Dark Curse/Backstabber might be the answer for a later PS6 barrel roll. Gagh! That's what I'm rolling with at present, but I'll probably change my mind tomorrow.

Just wanted to let people know, that we are working on getting the podcast into iTunes. We will be submitting the cast soon. I don't know when they will get back to us, but hopefully it won't be too long. Thanks for being patient with us.

I'm listening now (on YouTube, so i'm actually watching despite there being nothing to watch. So is that just listening? I suppose I'm consuming...)

I have a question for the next show, Aces related. I'm not writing Aces lists until I have them in my hands. Whats the Pros/Con of spoiled/leaked rules and playing with them before they are released. I like the whole 'geeing out' experience of opening the box, going over the cards and thinking up lists. I know others prefer to grab the rules online and Vassal them to death before buying (or before even being released.)

Check out libsyn.com for a super easy podcast solution. not free. but you will almost certainly end up here if the show gets big and there are some things that need to be done right the first time to save a bunch of pain in the future. I can sort out a code to get your first month free too if interested. (and am happy to help set it up if you need a hand with it.)

I'm with you Ben. I like the discoveries in the box.

Scarlet Cowgirl was developed with large assistance from Sable Gryphon - the undisputed master of the shuttlebus. I think it was he who came up with the Intelligence Agent addition to the hipposhuttlemus. The name for the squad 'Scarlet Cowgirl' was tagged by Sable Gryphon.

The original concept was inspired by the Red Lady squad which uses Kath Scarlet with Ion cannon and two cheap intercepters with PTL. I can claim some credit for combining the shuttlebus and firespray, something i knew was possible months ago but an idea which took quite a bit of time to catch on.

Podcasts have been around for more than 10 years. I don't think it is wrong to ask for the most basic part of podcasting. it is a .xml file which is just text. and are you really that thin skinned?

I just got word back from iTunes, and we are now under review. It shouldn't be long now before we are on there, and you can use a podcast app to listen.

gr8 podcast guys - well done. Looking fwd to more!

Nice podcast!

Normally you ask us to give you ideas to talk about, or squad list ideas, but since you mentioned that you're not "stats guys" (but I am), I'll flip it around:

Is there anything that would be interested in seeing the numbers on, in particular, to talk about in the next podcast?

Edit: I have already run the numbers on 4 attack dice. I'll get into this more in another post soon, but the summary is the damage for 2, 3, and 4 attack dice, (normalized to 2 attack dice) is:

2 attack: 1

3 attack: 1.74

4 attack: 2.58

This is basically an aggregate average across an estimate of the entire meta game.

The per-hit damage values and probability density functions are probably even more interesting, that certainly deserves its own thread.

I thought we were past this. You win, ok? I was wrong. We should expect amateurs to give us everything we want for free, and it should be perfect from the first moment. You've convinced me. Everyone agrees with you and there is much love. Can we agree to stop revisiting this

When did i ever say amateurs should get everything right the first time? Why is it if something is free one should not ask for an improvement that will make things better for everyone and explain why they want it? You act like I asked for free gold bars or something.

I'm not quite sure exactly what the question is yet but a breakdown of Carnor Jax's ability might not be bad.
