Cybernetic costs and NPC stats

By RoystonDA, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I searched and found nothing on this topic, but nevermind, moving on to the question.

Cybernetics give bonuses to the characters with very little back lash. The book mentions that cybernetics cost, but searching the chapter hasn't given me the price for them. How much do the cybernetics cost?

ALSO (I just thought of this)

I'm writing up a character now for my campaign and it seems odd that adversaries have no customization. You choose what your character is going to be, give it a name and there you are. No boosting characteristics, skills or talents, just the ones you're given.

Can NPCs gain better skills and talents from the creation?

If not, can they earn them through game play?

OR

For this character I'm writing up (hopefully the players will befriend him) should I create him like a PC but play him myself?

What makes you say Adversaries have no customization?

You can give an adversary whatever stats you want. Whatever weapons, whatever talents.

If you want to track an adversary's XP or build their skills over time, you are welcome to build them with the character generation rules, or just make them a Nemesis and give them new skills or talents after each adventure.

But as far as the stats of an adversary, they are whatever you say they are.

If the book says Stormtroopers have a Wound Threshold of 5, but you find that to be a little weak, you can write down "6" on your paper when you're tracking their Wound Threshold. If you want them to be a little tougher in a fistfight you can write down "3" as their Brawn. If they're an expert sniper, you can write their Ranged (Heavy) skill as 4 and give them a Heavy Blaster Rifle.

And so on...

Huh... This is blowing my mind waaayyy too much. Basically, there are rules and guidelines but we don't have to follow them all to the letter? I struggle to do that. But thanks for your help on that one.

Heh, this system is very much more abstract and loosey-goosey than other systems.

It's REALLY easy to come up with enemies in this system. You can just make a person or creature with whatever stats you want them to have. If you don't have any specific ideas, an enemy can have 2s in all their Characteristics, and a rank or two in Ranged (Light) or whatever combat skill you want them to have.

One of the developers mentioned in a podcast that he finds a great way to build an adversary is to take the stats of one of the player characters and use that. If there's a sniper in your party and you want to have a sniper as an enemy, take the PC's stats. They'll probably have a 3 or 4 in Agility and a 2 or 3 in Ranged (Heavy), and presto, instant sniper.

Cybernetics is crammed into the price/rarity chart with the rest of the miscellaneous gear, they'll have their own little section for cybernetic enhancements. You'll see stuff like the arms/legs costing 10k.

You can make any NPC you want with whatever you want them to have. The set stat blocks for adversaries is their to give you a baseline for what they should be, and under typical circumstances, those stats and gear should probably be fine most of the time unless your players start stacking up on soak or loading up on agility and get an auto-fire weapon. But as always, you should scale enemies depending on how you want encounters to be.

But for the NPC you're describing, it depends. Are you basically making a GMPC that runs around with the group all the time? Then it might be better to make them like a normal PC - all the same rules and everything, getting whatever experience and progressing like any PC would. Or is it just an NPC that's used to give a quest and guide them through it? Then you can give whatever stats/gear the character should have in order to shift the campaign along - and since he wouldn't be a normal character and you give him whatever you want, XP isn't necessary since he'll be gone after a while anyways.

I couldn't find this. I'll probably just make it an in game only purchase so I can make up my own prices for them.

As for the NPC stuff to every, thanks so much. This has really helped with the character and with the next one I'm writing.

It's on Pg. 182.
