whats the scale of the figers for the game

By unjulation, in X-Wing

hi, new hear so hello to one and all

i couldnt find a thread about this anyware - please point me in the right diretion if ive mised it

but i was wondering what scale they are useing for the ship figuers

being a bit of a modle maker ive been thinking about createing some terains and other things for the game - ive alredy been bizzy with makeing astorids and the like but would like to expand my rage

so it would be nice to get a rough idea of the scale that i need to be working in

thanks in addvance

unj :)

All the small and large ships are 1/270, and the huge ships (Tantive IV and Hoth Transport) are 1/500

thanks for the quick reply most apriciated :)

Actually we don't know the scale for the large ships. It's not 1/270 but no one outside of FFG actually knows exactly how long the CR-90 or Transport are, so we can't say for sure what the scale is.

1/500 is most likely close though.

Also before someone brings it up...

All the fighters released to date, including the A-Wing and HWK-290 are the correct size according to the stats that LFL gave FFG when they created them.

But the A wing cockpit is totally out of scale with the X wing... O w8... I forgot that basically only the head was exposed in an X/Y wing, where the entire body was exposed in an A wing.

I am amazed at how much effort FFG put in to make sure that the scale was right, iirc they actually went against the "official" size of the HWK and went back to the video games and scaled it from there themselves.

More accurately, it's BETWEEN 1:400 (which would be 15 inches) and 1:500 (just under 12 inches).

Not trying/wanting to be/sound like an a.. but really? How lazy can one be?

Quoting from page 26 in the rulebook (and also found simply by a quick google search):

" After creating a series of crude

rapid prototypes in various sizes, we finally chose

1/270 as our final scale. At this size it was possible

to maintain most of each starfighter’s fine details

while also making it possible for players to field a

significant number of fighters on the gaming tabletop"

Good luck on the terrain work though :-)

im sorry for being "lazzy" - only just got a copy of the game last week and dont know the rules bak to fromt yet........pluss my dyslexia might have something to do with it

i had already done a google surch but obviously my questions were worded wrong in google and i didnt find the answer i was looking for

and the question came to me while checking out various figuers today on line and because i dont remember reading about it in the rules i thought this would be the place to ask

sorry for being forgetfull/dyslexic mate

Wait, so the stats on the Wook for the HWK are wrong? Is there an article or post by the devs about that?

You can read up on it here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4193

But they're basically right. The original length for the ship is around 17 meters or so, and they nailed it at 16.5 meters. There is a lot of evidence for the small length, not the least of which is this:

If we assume Kyle and Jan are both around 1.6 meters tall, then the Crow should be no longer than 14-16 meters or so.

Awesome!

NP, and sry for being so blunt.

1.6m = 5'4" = " Aren't you a little short for a Jedi? " :)

Jan is listed at 1.6m, Kyle at 1.8m.

Great. And generally I too try my best (but at times I fail) to be polite and positive helpful with newcomers.

Anyways, if you at any time should/would be up for it I would gladly do a vassal.org intro game with you, it's a really great online version of the game and it's excellent for trying out squad maneuvers/setup/tactics so PM me if you want to try it out sometime.

And may the Force be with you ;-)

I will always love them long and hard for that.

Yeah, it's +endless, well kind of endless; up to 8 players can play in the same game at the same time, but then there's also an "observer" status that makes it possible to just watch/observe the game, dice rolls etc but the observer(s) can't move ships or roll dice

With the latest update they've really improved the interface and loads of ither stuff so I am looking forward to do some battle soon ;-)

Take care.

Hm, that's a little disappointing. I had hoped that the large ships would have been to the same scale. I suppose it's unavoidable.

According to the official dimensions that I'm aware of (and I am fallable, but I think I'm correct), which are X-wing = 12.5 m and TIE/ln = 6.4m, then they're a little out of scale with one another. The X-wing is at the 1/270, but the TIE is a little too big by comparison at 1/200. But maybe if the TIEs had been a bit smaller, then the average customer would not have been as impressed by them.

The "official" dimensions for the TIE Fighter are apparently wrong. As stated at the back of the rulebook, FFG measured the original movie studio models and used that to make this game's models. So the TIE Fighters are as large as they're supposed to be compared to the X-Wing and other ships.

Right, but at the same time the movie model of the Tantive IV is the same size or larger than that of the Devastator. Are movie models intended to be to scale to one another, given that they use perspectives and all that?

I think the fighters (TIE/X-Wing) are in scale with each other as each model used pilot figures from airplane model kits. The movie models where decorated with bits from various plastic model kits. For example, those vents on the back of the Millennium Falcon are the upper hulls of German Panther tanks.

As for the size of the Tantive, this is due to the fact that the Tantive was the original model for the Millennium Falcon so it was built larger since it would have more screen time. When they rejected that design they swapped the cockpit for the hammerhead and used it as the blockade runner. Those "single turbolaser" bumps were the original escape pods mentioned when the Falcon is captured by the Death Star which is funny since the Falcon model they ended up using didn't actually have escape pods.
