Deckbuilding

By TirrexFalcon, in Star Wars: The Card Game - Rules Questions

Odds are this is a dumb question but I am going to ask it anyway.

Could you have a Jedi deck that consists of LS elements from Jedi, Rebel Alliance and Smugglers? or can you only use Jedi and non-affiliated? This has probably been discussed before but I have simply missed it.

Thanks,

TF

You can. Deck building rules are relatively simple:

1) No more than 2 of an objective set

2) No more than 1 of any objective set that says "Limit 1" on the objective

3) You must include the entire objective set, so you build in 6 card blocks

4) At least 10 objective sets

5) If you have an objective that says "X Affiliation Only," then your affiliation card must match that. This will prevent some objective combinations

Other than that, you can mix and match as you'd like. Most competitive decks run 2 different affiliations. I've even run 3 in a competitive deck before, but that's rare.

Cool, Thanks for the clear outline. I'll have to see what I can do that'll give my Impreial Jerk (jk) of a friend a run for his money next time.

Again Many Thanks!

If he is playing straight Navy, turn 1 Han or Luke is an auto-win in my experience unless he can kill him immediately (which most decks cant). Hope that helps!

Other general rule of thumbs:

-You usually select the affiliation you have less objectives of (that way you will be sure to have resources when those cards come up. There are exceptions to this (as always).

-A lot of decks use a 7/3 split (7 affiliation one, 3 affiliation two). They do this because then when you draw your initial 4 objectives the worst case would be getting all 3 from the smaller affiliation but you would still not be locked out of using the larger affiliation. In a way you can take more and less risk by spiting differently, 6/4 is more risky of locking yourself while 8/2 makes it so you can never be locked.

The truth of this statement can depend on the card pool. AT-STs and the Snowtrooper Vanguard can be very difficult for Luke and Han to deal with if you're playing against Hoth Navy decks. But I digress.

KennedyHawk posts good advice. If you like numbers, running a 6/4 split with the affiliation matching the 4 objectives will end up locking you out of the main affiliation at the start of approximately 0.5% of games (1/210). Running 7/3 will never lock you out at the start, but has a slight chance of locking you out over the course of the game. Running 8/2 (or 9/1) will prevent you from ever having resource matching problems. Beware of neutral objectives (6/3/1 might as well be 6/4).

Regarding #5, I've seen a lot of people talk about x affiliation only sets like you absolutely can't run them with other sets of a different affiliation. My understanding was basically what you said, that you just have to be sure the affiliation card matches the restricted set.
