As the title suggests, I am looking for how I would get Unnatural Willpower, without a dark pact or Ascension. Does anybody know of any way that is possible?
(How to Get) Unnatural Willpower
I don't think it's SUPPOSED to be possible outside of Ascension of a Dark Pact. I mean, you could ask your GM for it as an Elite Advance, but Unnatural Willpower (especially on a Psyker) would be far too powerful an Advance for regular Dark Heresy. ...Hence why you would normally need a Dark Pact for it.

It may not "SUPPOSED" to be but is it possible?
Out of curiosity - what are all the benefits of Unnatural Willpower again? iirc it was useful for psykers to avoid Perils, but other than that only gave the +10 bonus on WP tests - or am I missing something important?
(apologies for this somewhat rookie'ish question and the semi-hijack)

Unnatural Willpower doubles or triples the effective willpower bonus of the character in question (ie. a Willpower of 60 with Unnatural Willpower (x2), confers a WPB of 12, and if it's (x3) would have a WPB of 18). Though I don't believe it outright doubles the stat itself, just the bonus.
Picture that for when the Psyker wants to manifest a power, or when he/she picks up a Psy Rating, and gains half his/her WPB in new Psychic Powers.

I believe that, in addition to those it (at x2) doubles your willpower bonus or at (x3) triples it, and that can be very useful for Psy Ratings.
**People say that it shouldn't but it doesn't state that it wont effect that unlike the U.C. Agility says it doesnt help speed.**
(EDIT) What he Col. said!
Edited by MadwiseaceIn short, outside of a Dark Pact or Ascension I don't think it's possible outside of an Elite Advance. That said, your GM could offer you pretty much anything he wants to, with regards to an Elite Advance-- I know my own GM is considering offering our group's Assassin Psy Rating 1 after some Cultists did some head messing with her.
So best bet is ask your GM, but I honestly think for regular Dark Heresy it'd be ridiculously unbalancing if done for a Psyker or Adept.
Ok, well thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it, hopefully he'll let me but who knows, we are trying to survive on (and get off of) a death world that might make him pity me

Oh yeah, I know that it - like all Unnatural Traits - doubles the Bonus, I just wasn't sure what good that actually does. I did forget about the Ratings etc, though, so thanks for reminding me of that.
So ... only really useful only for psykers, as per the RAW?
Best for psykers (and probably overpowered for them. A lot of the DH powers scale based on willpower... I think it is force barrage which creates WB shots, each of 1d10+WB damage and WB Pen, for example), but I wouldn't turn it down for other characters. +10 (or better) to willpower tests isn't bad. However, yes, not as obviously practical as Unnatural Toughness or Strength.
A Psyker with some experience under their belt will have willpower of 50+, so with 1 level of unnatural they will have a willpower bonus of 10. If they take the time invoking (or channelling... or whatever it is called), they will have a +20 to "cast" their psychic powers, which makes even some of the most powerful powers easy, and relatively unrisky as you don't have to roll many dice. Ok, less dramatic if you can't channel (or fail the roll...), but outside of combat rather dramatic psychic abilities just become child's play.
Do NOT give Psykers Unnatural Willpower. It will destroy the universe!
Psykers need checks and balances, not more ridiculous power!
Thanks for the valuable answers!
Obviously much less impressive in Rogue Trader onwards, as stuff then scales based on Psy Rating, not WB. "Just" gives you a +10% on your Focus Power rolls, (though truthfully as your Psy rating increases you hit the cap of 91+ always being a fail quite quickly).
Slight necro. In Deathwatch (and so it probably goes for RT too) it says that the Unnatural WP multiplier adds to effective PR (and counts as bonus DoS during opposed tests during Psy use). Keep it out of PC's hands.

Fortunately, I don't think there's any legit way to gain Unnatural Willpower in Rogue Trader, either. I just wanted to point out that it's not "just".
OK. I will admit I am less aware of the psychic power stuff in Rogue Trader onwards, as I never really looked into it much and have never played a psyker character (thoroughly read DH and ran a short campaign, so more sure of the psychic power rules for that). Yes, +2 Psy Rating isn't to be sneezed at. I am not convinced as game breaking as it is for DH psykers though (though there are certain post DH psychic powers which do just get silly at higher levels).
Edited by borithanSomething about "why psyker wants UWP".
"During Opposed Characteristic Tests, on a success the bonus multiplier is added to the degree of success. For example, Gybalt (S32) is trying to break free of the grip of a Daemon (S35, Unnatural Strength (×2)). This is an Opposed Strength Test with Gybalt rolling 12 (2 degrees of success) versus the Daemon’s roll of 15 (2 degrees of success plus 2 from the Unnatural Strength, a total of 4 degrees of success). Gybalt fails to shake off the Daemon." So every time psyker needs to do opposed test with his WP (Blood Boil, for example), he just have 2 extra degrees of success.
Some powers, as Douse Flames, gain range from WP bonus, and some, as Holocaust or Force Bolt or Psychic Blade - gain just direct bonus for damage.
Psyker wants UWP. Trust it.

By this same notion, it's also why they shouldn't have it until Ascension (and even then....)
Psykers are already incredibly powerful. They do not need the help of Unnatural Willpower.
I NEED THE UWP
I NEED THE UWP
No, you don't. You'll be able to make a super-powerful, almost broken, psyker just fine without it.

Get your GM drunk. Very, very drunk.
That's it.
