    Flotilla and hyperspace assault

Jondavies72 replied to Jondavies72 's topic in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions
follow the same rules as other ships with one exception ( the ramming thing)The core rules "state each ship has a class size, small medium or large, small ships use the 41mm x71mm base" ect. This is not a must rule, in that small ships have a 41mm x 71mm base, but it does not stop a new type of ship sharing that base size and not being a small ship.To be sure a flotilla was a specific size of ship the rule should be a "must rule"as in "all models with a ship base size of 41mm x 71mm must be classed as small ships" I know it may seem pedantic but to say the wave 3 flotillas are small ships with a rule variation because they use a 41mm x 71mm base is making at assumption not quite supported by RAW. But if we were playing

Flotillas - Which faction won wave 3?

Caldias replied to ceejlekabeejle 's topic in Star Wars: Armada
Gladiator doesn't have a choice. It is possible to maneuver as such that Demolisher doesn't get black range after its engine tech on turn 2, but the flotilla can get within at least long range of it. especially if you have 2 slicer tool/tractor beam transports and deploy your fleet in one cluster. If the fleet is kept relatively close to each other then Demolisher either ignores it and suffers the consequences or trades down and kills the flotilla. Either way is beneficial

could make it an upgrade card. Offensive Retrofit, 10 points. "Up to 2 (1?) squadrons activated by this ship can use their anti-squadron armament when attacking a ship (or just flotilla?)" This would force flotillas to have an escort standing by and it would be a hard choice to take as an upgrade - expensive, occupies that O Retro slot, and only affects a limited number of squads

meant "in your backfield" in the sense of threatening it, which is all you really need to be able to do to shut down activation padding throwaway flotillas. Which, I haven't measured it, but I'm pretty sure you can get a Liberty threatening most anywhere on the board on turn 2 in this way. The caveat to all of this, of course, being that I've never thought flotilla activation shenanigans were a possible problem anyway, and this is just another way to deal with them... Flotillas. . . You are welcome!

admit I'm on 'Negative Nelly's' side, especially when it comes to the flotilla thing. I'm not sure it needs 4, but with that wide spacing and the equidistant and similar stand, it does seem a bit off to me. I wonder what the pegs are like for holding those things. I'm assuming (for the best) that they're un-notched so they can be at least positioned on some different angles. I've been kind of wondering how to vary those things a bit myself given that I'm planning for anywhere between 5 and 8 flotillas. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to see these things come out! On the other hand, 'play on p,Ayer' got me to laugh for a little bit. If it's a mistake, it's a deliciously supportive one, if not, it's clever enough

think the only thing that need to be done with flotillas is making them unable to be objective ships. It's not OP I'm just tired of seeing most wanted and only taking most wanted because, with a flotilla, anything else would be dumb. I know advanced gunnery works better some times but what else do you see? Opening salvo? It's most wanted all the way down

just want to point out that a 2 ship (0 flotillas) Star Destroyer list came in second at Gen Con. I have been looking a lot at this list, and I would put it up against any heavy flotilla list you could build

sure can ram an ISD or an MC80 for (presumably) 20-ish points! And take all that damage while they don't even blink. 'Cause Flotillas don't cause damage that way, except to other flotillas. It is still a good blocker (in theory) of course. Aaaah Raging Celt, revel in the fame! Thou deserveth it! I, on the other hand, have a 0 in 3 track record at predictions in Armada! Whatever I say, they do the opposite. Usually within the week too, just for that extra bit of jabbiness

This entirely. The top builds right now are low activation lists some of which have no flotillas. Flotillas serve a purpose, but are a bit overused in some local metas. A good high quality activation list will shut them down

under the impression that since the nerf that removed commanders from flotillas the quality of each activation mattered more than having quantity? Sorry, I just haven't seen something as insane as 7+ flotilla builds be successful in my area

Maybe. I dunno, I think flotillas are in a pretty good place. I use 3 flotillas in my Sato's 'sploders build and they're essential to the functionality of the fleet. What I don't understand is how relaying squads is considered too powerful. I'd take a solid quasar alpha against a bunch of squads relayed 2 at a time... Hit 'em with the wambojambo.... Are there no squadron player is your meta? I'd think any player who chooses to play the squad game could overcome relay squads

were modified for military service and were given at least two Turbolasers (sounds like the GR-75 really). The only problem is that they were mainly used to only transport dignitaries, not cargo and can be seen in Phantom Menace (see first 18 seconds). Also I know the GR-75 may have been placed on a sliding scale in Armada to make its 90 meters look better next to other ships (especially as a flotilla), but would the 80 meter Star Shuttle be small enough next to the 115 meter Consular Class Cruiser, or would it require some fudging too, to make it look more “flotilla” like? And would people be ok with that

MandalorianMoose replied to Vetnor 's topic in Star Wars: Armada

Vogons replied to NebulonB 's topic in Star Wars: Armada
Send your slicing flotilla in at the same time as other targets. Make the other player prioritize targets, it might be that the other player shooting up your flotilla this turn leaves the other ships in a perfect firing position the following turn

This. So much This. Slicer flotillas are annoying... They can almost be frustratingly annoying, but there are ways to mitigate and minimise them, while you attempt to deal with bigger threats... In the worst case, a slicer flotilla won't kill you... But it may frustrate the living hell out of you... That ISD/Liberty bearing down... THAT'll kill

doubt they see much use in 400 point game, but I admit I could be completely wrong. I just don't see what people are going to take out. I know I am personally going to hate the F ramming ability of flotillas against ISDs and MC80s etc. freakin stupid. Talk about wiz kid stuff. Can't wait to see the conversions adding three extra ships to the flotillas so they look better. It will be interesting to see how people suspend them. I bet they complete sink. The good news is you can all catch up with your painting in all that time so your squadrons look playable at the very least. Edited April 15, 2016 by AdmiralNelson

    Republic Flotilla

JediPartisan replied to JediPartisan 's topic in Star Wars: Armada
Good points. I just kinda liked the idea behind the flotilla (a group of small ships clustered together). Whether they have fleet support as their contribution to the fleet, or used as a cheap activation, or something else (maybe with some kind of purpose strictly for them, even if it’s just something like anti-squadron support), I hope they keep them in the game. Maybe they revamped the flotillas with the new cards too (probably not, but I can dream

    Republic Flotilla

looking more at the Consular Class Cruiser title “Radiant VII”, and I started to wonder, what could the Republic use as their flotilla ship. Honestly I couldn’t think of one. Then I started to wonder if the “Radiant VII” would have to be the ship that fulfills that role. The cheapest Consular Class cruiser comes in at 39 (with 2 point “Radiant VII” title and no other upgrades), but the most expensive flotilla is the Gozanti at 28 (with no title or upgrades). That’s quite a jump in price to fulfill that roll, and though the Consular Cruiser is a tougher ship, it doesn’t have the benefit of a Scatter. The republic has many different types of shuttles and “transport” ships (mainly of the troop varieties), but they’re very small and generally don’t get past 20 meters. The Gozanti

realize the cautious "we don't really know a lot just yet so it's really hard to say" answer is lame, but unfortunately that's my answer. I primarily play Imperials, so I'm expecting to pick up 3 of each just for options and upgrade cards, but depending on what kinds of builds might be viable, I could see that number going up or down (either universally for both flotillas or specifically for one or the other) prior to their retail release

mean, I just picked up MC80 #3 and Glad #5 after theroycrafting fleets where such madness might work) but because they look like they will introduce very interesting decisions into list building. Since they primarily buff others, they are like upgrade cards that increase your activations and have a tactical positioning dependency. Can't wait to try the wonkiest possible crap with these. Here's an interesting question for the thread: How many flotillas would one get to cover the more extreme potential list scenarios? I'm initially aiming for 3 of each, pending reveal on point cost

played a great game last night with my buddy. A well played game resulting in a 5-5 victory tie, and both of us realized at the end of the game how much the flotillas (what we know about them) would have changed our game and made things even more exciting. I know there's a lot of wave 3 'hatas' going on right now, but I'm really jazzed to see what kinds of changes these fleet support things bring to the table. Edited April 14, 2016 by Rocmistro
