Hey all, People seemed to enjoy my last report on the Midlands Regional, so I decided I'd write another one for the Cardiff Regional... with pictures! So for this one, four of us travelled down from Manchester, myself & Bryce with rebels, and Kev & Steve with Imperials. I've been to Firestorm Games' South Wales Gaming Centre before, but for anyone that hasn't, it's easily one of the best gaming centres in existence -
Thanks for all the nice comments chaps If / when I go to anymore biggish events I'll do another report. Unfortunately I can't attend the European Champs at the UK Games Expo but I would have loved to have a crack at that one. I don't have an image the whole table but I do have one of the top half: Also noticed I got a nice mention at the end of the -
Great write up - I've had the dubious pleasure of playing against Ben's bomber list; alas I was tabled! -
Thank you so much for this report!! -
Nice, very nice. This report gives a noob like me hope. Looking forward to your next report.

Great reports. Congratulations on a well deserved win. -
That's a great write up! And a job well done. Do you know if the full results were posted anywhere? -
Jamie you should play every weekend!!! and write us some reports -
Thank you! realised I never explained what happened afterward! There is normally a cut to the top 2 players for a final round. But it was me and Kev (round 2 opponent). We didn't want to play again plus we had a 4 hour drive home ahead of us and it was already approaching 10pm. So we literally coin flipped it in front of everyone. Kev won the toss, I bowed down in awe -
Great write up - was down on middle to bottom tables, after reading this am very glad (in the nicest possible way) we never crossed fleets! -
Great write-up again, thanks Jamie. A really strong result in such a big group - and against some top Armada players. Personally, five rounds is a lot for one day. My brain is fried after 3 or 4 games! Taking the coin toss was probably the right call at the end. :-) -
GAME THREE - Mark Mainwaring - Superior PositionsMark had a 16 point bid... so he really wanted to go first. After seeing his list, with multiple elements that benefit from the initiative, I can see why.Mark had a Gladiator with Demolisher and Assault Proton Torpedoes, a Raider with Impetuous and Flechette Torpedoes, an Arquitens with Captain Needa, Turbolaser Reroute Circuits and it was carrying Admiral Screed. Finally a Flotilla with Bomber Command. What really drew my eye -
GAME FIVE - Ben Edgar - Superior PositionsFirstly let me just say, that I was super psyched to be doing this well considering the short time I've been playing. I walled into this game happy with my performance even knowing that I was likely to walk away from this one with a crushing defeat. But hey, we're here now, so F-it, lets have a go!!Ben was running a unique build of Motti ISD1 -
Who was first player in your game against Callum? And who got ambushed? -
I was confused by your question so I checked the fleet Ambush card just now. Seems we got it quite wrong! I've never played that scenario before and I assumed my opponent understood it, since it was his mission. I chose to go first and we apparently made the mistake of setting up Calum's ships in the ambush zone instead of mine. I'll put that down to my still relative newbishness having -
Live and learn. I liked your comment about it not being a good idea to attack piecemeal... thats normally the second player boost from fleet ambush. -
Thank you for reading and enjoying! Also game 5 and my conclusions are up! -
The MC80 was the reason I bought into Armada, I just think it looks so badass. All I did was make any fleet that would allow me to run that ship I don't think there is any ship in Armada that you just 'cant' use. Maybe it just needs the right fleet to sit in! -
Really nice set of write ups, thank you for putting the time into this. Edited January 19, 2017 by Jondavies72

recent Welsh regional ran FIVE games in one day (which I believe is a bit naughty). Guys I know drove 4 hours there, played their 5 games, and drove 4 hours back (that may not seem like a lot to out transatlantic cousins but 4 hours can get you almost half a country away in good traffic, and this was technically another country -
Nice report, I hate the thought of playing runaway games - much like I'm probably not ever going to use a bye; I just want to play Armada! After playing the Welsh Regionals the meta seems to polarised into either 1-2 big ships or max squads and slam ships/flotillas. Seems to be no place for mediums any more. Flotilla spam wasn't as bad but still a few fleets with 3-4. Barring the odd fleet, I think all Imps had an ISD and Rebels were either an MC-75 or Yavaris max squads -
TeamOrange = fighters are activated by the RLB ship when being placed and hence can shoot but cannot move as per the card. TeamPurple= fighters are not activated but are merely placed and cannot move or shoot until activated by another ship later in the turn. The unofficial ruling by FFG (Mr Gernes) is that it should be played as TeamOrange. The recent Welsh Regionals went with TeamOrange ruling -
See this WuFame! Thats welsh. Worlds apart. Or just the Severn crossing. To be fair I think Ma22a went down from Newcastle -
COME TO ALTON FOR THE REGIONAL!!! You know you want to ............... -
You can tell it is Welsh through the distinct lack of vowels... Yes Ma22a did come down and I beat him as you requested. Though it was a close and good match in the end.
