Strafe´s range 2 attack question... Really noob...

By Juanzarabozo, in Tannhauser

Hey i just bought the game and after the first match there was question about strafe (eva kramer´s whip), when it says "or range 2", does it means that it still is a meele attack and you don´t need line of sight? (around corners, or if you are attacking a character behind a door at range 2 for example), and what about smoke, can you make range 2 with strafe there???

Attacks with Strafe are hand to hand attacks and don't need line of sight, even if attacking at range 2. Furthermore, it was officially ruled that attacks that don't need line of sight aren't affected by smoke, so it should be possible to attack with Strafe at range 2 in the smoke.

By the way, I don't see anything "noob" here. Especially the different rulings concerning smoke are somewhat contradicting.

I don't think so, I always played Eva's strafe considering the smoke prevents her attack on the second circle: the strafe is a hand-to-hand weapon, but I think the attack on the second circle is ranged. This is only an opinion, but is more realistic for me.

I always thought the special ability of Strafe was the ability to make a hand to hand attack at range 2. As Strafe states that it is a hand to hand weapon, all attacks made with it should be hand to hand, not ranged. And if the attack IS hand to hand, it doesn't need line of sight and should be unaffected by smoke.

I agree with ??!.

According to the rules it must be possible, also attacking around corners in Ksiaz Castle Map for example.

If this is really realistic is another question. Just like throwing granates or attacking through doors is possible, but shooting not...

Strafe can not be used to attack at range 2 in smoke, because the smoke rules state you "can only attack adjacent targets" page 23. Strafe's special ability does not make range 2 targets the same as adjacent. remember the smoke rules are universial and are not afected by the Hand-to-Hand trait.

Further there is nothing in the Strafe rules stating it does not require LOS page 36. Hand-to-Hand weapons still require LOS except when fighting at a door.

There is no ruling from FFG stating that H-to-H weapons by defult ignor LOS. In fact I can't think of any H-to-H weapon the inately ignors LOS.

Refer to page 17, the only exception to LOS for H-to-H weapons is doors, and it requires that you still be adjacent. Remember to make an Out of Path attack like around a corner, etc the item rules must state "target may be out of path" see page 18.

Miah has the rulebook backing him up, so I guess his logic is right. Seems good to me.

I was hoping in a Miah's help, FFG doesn't make rule "not realistic" without a good reason (like semplification of gaming): and for strafe there isn't.

I love strategy, so I like search new mothods and new combinations of characters and their packs, but without search any "bug" in a rule to get an advantaged character.
