Different printings of FFG's Tannhäuser?

By Tennberg, in Tannhauser

Hi all,

I picked up a new copy of FFG's Tannhäuser over the weekend with some store credit I had at my FLGS. The theme really appeals to me, and it seems the revised rules (from reviews I read) really improve the gameplay.

I was browsing this forum after my purchase and happened across a thread where someone was asking about the game. One of the replies said that if the person picked up a copy of the game without the revised rulebook, its boards would be thinner than those in newer printings. He/she also said that the oldest printings of the game have both a FFG and TOY logo on the front.

The copy I picked up has FFG and TOY logos in the lower left corner of the front cover, but was a new, sealed copy with a red sticker on the front saying that it includes the revised rulebook. The poster on this forum said that the OP should look for the 2010 printing of the game, which has just the FFG logo on the front and (supposedly) thicker boards. A couple images I've seen of the cover using Google's image search showed a cover that had an FFG logo in the lower left but with a TOY logo in the lower center. I didn't see any cover images with just an FFG logo.

Does anyone know if this is true, that there is a 2010 FFG-logo-only printing with better boards? I haven't opened my copy yet, so I could easily return it and have my FLGS order it.

I have no idea really, but I do have a 1st printing american tannhauser game, and the boards are just fine :)

I don't know anything about logo placement, but if it has a sticker on it saying it contains the new rules, it probably is the more recent printing. I mean, unless someone at your FLGS enjoys swapping stickers for kicks. =P

Worst comes to worst, you could try returning it to the store and/or emailing FFG support if there's no revised rulebook inside, claiming the sticker said there would be. (Make sure to keep the sticker.)

As far as the boards go, the newer printings might have "better" boards, but that doesn't mean the old ones are ****. I have one of the first English printings and I have no complaints about the board.

Edit: Double-post, darn it all. >.<
